What are Accu-Chek Aviva Test Strips?

Accu-Chek Aviva Test Strips are used with Accu-Chekk meters to help determin blood glucose in people with diabetes. This product makes it easy to test correctly the first time, so you can be confident in your results. The easy to handle test strips, simple blood application and small blood sample requirement ensure a quick and convenient test every time.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a life-long condition that causes blood sugar levels to become too high. The most common form of diabetes is Type 2 which affects around 90% of adults with diabetes. Type 1 diabetes requires regular testing of blood glucose level to ensure that they are not too low or too high. As the body does not produce enough insulin, it is important for people with Type 1 diabetes to regularly inject insulin to bring down blood sugar levels.

What causes diabetes?

The level of sugar in our blood is controlled by a hormone called insulin, which is produced by a gland that is behind the stomach called the pancreas. When food is digested and enters the bloodstream, insulin moves glucose out of the blood in to cells, where it is broken down to produce energy. However, diabetes causes the body to become unable to break down glucose into energy, due to there not being enough inulin to move the glucose or the insulin produced does not work efficiently.

Why is it important to test blood glucose levels?

Blood glucose (also known as blood sugar) levels are a measurement that shows how much glucose is in your blood. Glucose is the sugar our body receives from food and drink and it fluctuates up and down throughout the day. If you take medication such as insulin or sulfonylureas, checking your blood sugar level is an essential part of living with diabetes. It can help you to know when you need to take more medication or when you need to eat something. Routine checks can help you to know when your blood sugar levels are falling too low (also known as a hypo)) or when your blood sugar levels are rising too high (also nown as a hyper).

How do Accu-Chek Test Strips work?

Accu-Chek test strip make every strip count by helping to ensure an easy, correct test every time. The easy-to-handle test strips are larger and wider for a better grip and easier testing. The strips provide an easier blood application by quickly attracting and absorbing a tiny blood drop. The wide-mouth dosing area is specifically designed so you can fill the strip on the first try, for a faster and more simple method of testing. Finally the Accu-Chek Aviva Test Strips only require a very small blood sample to perform the test - just 0.6µl of blood is required!

How to use Accu-Chek Aviva Test Strips

Use Accu-Chek Aviva Test Strips with your Accu-Chek Aviva blood glucose meter. Before testing, make sure your hands are clean and dry. Insert one Aviva test strip into the meter, ensuring the test strip and blood drop symbols appear on the display. Use your finger pricking device to draw a drop of blood from your finger. Touch the drop of blood to the front edge of the yellow window on your Aviva test strip, making sure that you do not apply blood to the top of the test strip, or to the top of the yellow window. When you see a flashing hourglass, you have applied enough blood and you will soon see your test results on the screen.
