What is Sudafed Blocked Nose Spray?

This Sudafed Nose Spray is a treatment that works to relieve congestion in the nose. Nasal congestion is relieved thanks to this spray and the active ingredient, which is xylometazoline. Xylometazoline is a decongestant that reduces swelling in the nose and sinuses.

 

What causes nasal congestion?

Nasal congestion is generally caused by an infection such as a cold, or an allergy such as hay fever. The condition happens as a result of the blood vessels in the nose swelling because of the infection. Any infection is also likely to cause excess mucus to form at the back of the nose.

 

Who is this Sudafed nasal spray suitable for?

This nasal spray is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the spray should not use it. It should also not be used by anyone any of the following applies:

  • Taking antidepressant known as a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI)
  • If you have recently had neurosurgery
  • Had the pituitary gland removed

If you are using any other type of medication, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this spray?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a medical professional before using this spray.

 

How should Sudafed Blocked Nose Spray be used?

To use this spray, remove the cap from the nozzle, and hold down the plunger while resting the bottle with your thumb. Do this until spray comes out of the bottle. Place the nozzle inside the nostril and breathe inwards at the same time as spraying some of the solution into the nostril. Repeat this for the other nostril. Wipe the nozzle and put the cap back on after use. The recommended dosage is sprayed into each nostril 2-3 times a day.

 

Are there any side effects?

There is a chance of side effects as it is a medicine. The potential side effects include:

  • Irritation such as burning, soreness, dryness, stinging, or itching
  • Sneezing
  • Nausea
  • A headache
  • Long term-use may bring back congestion

If you notice any side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
