Scope
This SOP sets out the process for detecting and report safeguarding issues concerning vulnerable adults and children in England
Guidance
- If a vulnerable adult or child is in immediate danger the police should be notified immediately regardless of the stage of the SOP reached
- Relevant GPHC holders should complete the Safeguarding Training administered by CPPE and display relevant certificates in the dispensary.
Concerns/incidents
- Refer to the relevant NPA safeguarding guidance resource
- Vulnerable adults: refer to “No secrets: guidance on developing and implementing multi-agency policies and procedures to protect vulnerable adults from abuse” and “Safeguarding adults at risk of harm: a legal guide for practitioners”
- Child: refer to “Working together to safeguard children March 2015” and “What to do if you’re worried a child is being abused: advice for practitioners March 2015”
Consent
- Obtain consent prior for sharing information with any third party
- If a patient refuses to provide consent then this should be respected – if sharing is deemed necessary to prevent harm or risk to an patient, the pharmacist can disclose confidential information to fulfil their professional duty
