What is Piz Buin Moisturising Sun Lotion?

Piz Buin Moisturising Sun Lotion intensely moisturises your skin whilst protecting the skin from the sun. It is formulated with effective anti-oxidants which help prevent premature skin ageing caused by sun exposure. The unique hydrating complex provides intense moisturisation to help maintain the skin’s natural hydration level while tanning. This lotion is non-greasy, non-sticky and is sweat and water-resistant to leave skin smooth, soft and protected.

How does the sun damage the skin?

Spending time in the sun may feel good but the ultraviolet (UV) light damages your skin. Our skin produces a dark-coloured pigment called melanin, as a shield against further UV radiation exposure. This darkening is what we know as a tan. Although tanning is cosmetically desirable, it is a sign that your skin has been damaged and is attempting to protect itself. High doses of UV radiation kill most of the skin cells in the upper layer of our skin and any cells that are not killed are damaged.

Issues caused by sun damage

Sun damage can cause many complications with your skin including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Dark spots
  • Damage to DNA in your skin cells
  • Skin cancer
  • Dry skin
  • Melasma
  • Actinic Keratosis

Who should take extra care in the sun?

Everyone should take care when spending time in the sun. You can still suffer sunburn, even if it’s cloudy. You should take extra care in the sun if you:

  • Have pale skin
  • Have freckles or red/fair hair
  • Tend to burn rather than tan
  • Have many moles
  • Have skin problems relating to a medical condition
  • Are only exposed to intense sun occasionally (e.g. when on holiday)
  • Are in a hot country where the sun is intense
  • Have a history of skin cancer in your family
  • Spend a lot of time in the sun, whether it’s for work or play

How can we protect against sun damage?

Excessive exposure to sunlight has widely been accepted as the underlying cause for harmful effects on the skin. It is believed that 4 out of 5 cases of skin cancer could be prevented as UV damage is mostly avoidable. Adopting a few easy precautions can protect our skin against sun damage

  • Limit time in the midday sun – UV rays are the strongest between 10 am and 4 pm, so try to limit your exposure during these hours
  • Use shade wisely - Seek shade when UV rays are the most intense
  • Wear protective clothing – Wearing a hat with a wide brim, sunglasses and tightly woven, loose-fitting clothes
  • Use sunscreen – Apply sunscreen and re-apply every two hours or after working, swimming, playing or exercising outdoors
  • Avoid sunlamps and tanning parlours – sunbeds damage the skin

How will Piz Buin protect your skin?

This sun lotion has been formulated with innovative technologies to ensure you achieve protection as well as moisture that is sweat-proof and water-resistant. It utilises advanced UVA/UVB filters to provide immediate protection. It is formulated with Feverfew PFE which is an extract from the Feverfew plant. This is a highly effective antioxidant ingredient which helps to relieve redness of the skin, repair skin cells that are damaged by UV rays. Glycerine is used to attract water and hold it within the skin to help maintain a good level of moisture. Its efficacy has been proven by several years of extensive research.

How to use Piz Buin

Apply the lotion generously and evenly before exposure to the sun. Applying a small quantity will lower the protection level significantly- the NHS recommends 2 teaspoons of sun lotion on your head (if you have thinning or no hair), arms and neck and 2 tablespoons of sun lotion for the rest of your body- but you can never have too much protection, so apply liberally!
