What are Numark Flu All-in-One Chesty Cough & Cold Tablets?

Numark Flu All-in-One Chesty Cough & Cold Tablets are a form of treatment that works to relieve symptoms associated with a cold or the flu. This includes aches, pains, a headache, a blocked nose, a sore throat, chills, and a chesty or mucus cough. These tablets contain three active ingredients that work to treat these symptoms:

  • Paracetamol
  • Guaifenesin
  • Phenylephrine

Paracetamol is a painkiller that will also reduce a fever if you have one. Guaifenesin is what is known as an expectorant, a type of medicine that will loosen phlegm caught in the windpipe, throat, and nose. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that will reduce swelling in the nose.

 

What causes a cold or the flu?

A cold or the flu are both viral infections that are contagious. They are mainly spread through the air, by someone affected by a condition sneezing, coughing, or blowing their nose. This releases particles that will stay in the air and can be breathed in, causing a cold or the flu. Both a cold or the flu have similar symptoms, though with the flu they are more severe.

 

Who are these cold and flu tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 12 and over, looking for treatment for a cold, the flu, or a chesty or mucus cough. They should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the tablets. They should not be used if any of the following apply to you:

  • Have a serious heart condition
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Are diabetic
  • Have an overactive thyroid
  • Have glaucoma
  • Have difficulty passing urine
  • Are currently taking, or have taken in the last 2 weeks, antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI’s)
  • Are taking beta-blockers
  • Are currently taking any other decongestants
  • Are taking a cough suppressant

You should speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using if any of the following apply to you:

  • Suffer from kidney or liver problems
  • Have a bad cough or asthma
  • Ave a circulatory disorder
  • Have angina
  • Have an enlarged prostate
  • Have severe stomach problems
  • Have a metabolic disorder called phenylketonuria

If you are using any other form of medication, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

 

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a medical professional for advice before using these tablets.

 

How should Numark Flu All-in-One Chesty Cough & Cold Tablets be used?

To use these tablets, swallow them whole with a glass of water. The recommended dosage for these tablets is two tablets every four hours. Do not take more than eight tablets in a 24-hour period. Do not use while taking alcohol or any other cold and flu treatments. Do not use for longer than five days. Do not attempt to drive after taking this medication.

 

Are there any side effects?

Most people will not experience any side effects but there is a chance of them. Potential side effects when using these tablets include:

  • A skin rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach upsets
  • Tingling or coolness of the skin
  • A faster or slower heartbeat
  • Insomnia
  • Nervousness
  • Tremors
  • Convulsions
  • A rise in body temperature
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Vomiting

If you notice any side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
