What are Hypromellose Eye Drops?

Hypromellose Eye Drops are hydrating eye drops designed to help those with dry eyes. They’re perfect for those who use hard contact lenses, or have artificial eyes, or even those who are suffering with everyday dryness and irritation in their eyes. These drops help to hydrate your eyes, easing itching, redness, and soreness, and reducing the gritty feeling in your dry eyes.

Why do I have dry eyes?

Everyone suffers with dry eyes at some point, it’s a common condition which has lots of different causes. Dry eyes usually aren’t serious and they can go away on their own, but if you suffer with dry eyes regularly then you may choose to use eye drops or another remedy to moisturise your eyes and relieve irritation. Some of the most common causes of dry eyes include:

  • Wearing contact lenses
  • Staring at screens for a long time without a break
  • Air conditioned or heated environments
  • Dry, dusty, cold, or windy weather conditions
  • Being older than 50
  • Some medications
  • Some medical conditions

How will Hypromellose Eye Drops help to hydrate dry eyes?

These eye drops use the active ingredient Hypromellose, which is part of a group of ingredients known as artificial tears. This means that these drops mimic your natural tears, hydrating your eyes and making sure that they’re both well lubricated and clean. This helps to moisturise your eyes and reduce irritation, itching and redness.

Can I use these eye drops if I’m wearing contact lenses?

If you’re wearing contact lenses you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. You should avoid using this product if you wear soft contact lenses, as these eye drops contain an ingredient that is known to discolour soft lenses. If you do choose to wear your contact lenses while using this product, remove your lenses before applying the eye drops and wait for at least 15 minutes before putting your contact lenses back in.

Can I use this product if I’m using other medication?

If you’re using any other medication, including eye drops or eye ointment, you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using Hypromellose eye drops. This will help you to be sure that your medicines are safe to use together and won’t interact.

Can I use this product if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you should speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product. Some medications may not be safe for you or your baby at this time, and a medical professional may wish to recommend another more suitable product.

How to use these eye drops

You should wash your hands before and using these eye drops. Remove the cap from the bottle and tilt your head back. Close your eye and place a fingertip against the inner corner of the closed eye, keep your eye shut for one minute. Repeat in other eye if necessary. For best results, use 1 – 2 hypromellose eye drops 3 times a day.

When should these eye drops not be used?
