How to Change Your Nominated Pharmacy

When you request your NHS prescriptions, did you know that you don’t always have to collect from a local pharmacy or the in-house chemist at the GP?

Choosing your preferred pharmacy is commonly referred to as ‘nominating’ your pharmacy, and it’s easier to do than you might think.

And, in the digital age, you’re no longer limited to picking up your orders in person. Online pharmacies get rid of all that hassle, instead delivering straight to your door.

In this guide, we’ll talk about the many ways in which you can change your nominated pharmacy, the benefits of choosing an online pharmacy, and why you should consider using the Chemist4U app for your prescriptions going forward.

Three key takeaways

  • You can nominate an online pharmacy, such as Chemist4U, in many ways, including by app, website, phone call or visiting your GP in person.
  • Ordering your prescription online is stress-free, quick and discreet. All prescriptions are sent to your door within a few days of approval.
  • The Chemist4U app allows you to request and track the progress of your NHS prescriptions before they go out for delivery, as well as any other online orders.

Can you nominate an online pharmacy?

Yes, you can nominate an online pharmacy to dispense your NHS prescriptions. This typically involves having the pharmacy process your prescription and deliver it to your home address (or the address you provide for delivery). This is different to a community pharmacy, which would involve you going to collect your prescriptions yourself.

Benefits of ordering your prescription online

Getting out of the house and going to a nearby pharmacy, waiting in a long queue, and then waiting again for your name to be called, is tedious and is the type of thing that ordering online helps avoid.

Furthermore, if you’re someone with limited mobility or have a physical disability, getting your prescriptions delivered can make your life much easier, as it gives you increased access to getting your medication when you need it.

And if you get free NHS prescriptions, or use a prepayment certificate, you can still order online. All you need to do is let your online pharmacy know.

We’ve gone into all the benefits of using an online pharmacy in our guide to give you a better idea of why you might want to make the switch.

How to nominate Chemist4U as your pharmacy

There are a few different ways you can nominated Chemist4U as your chosen pharmacy:

Download our app

If you’re looking for prescription delivery that is fast, free and discreet, then the quickest way to get started is to download the Chemist4U app. By downloading the app, you register your interest to be nominated with us so that we can dispense your prescriptions – it’s that easy.

Register on our website

If you don’t want to download the app, you can still register for NHS services on our website. It’s the same process as the app: fill in your information, and whenever your next prescription is due, request it with your GP. Within a few days, it’ll be delivered to your door.

Talk to your GP

If you don’t want to go online to nominate yourself, there are still other options. For example, you can visit your GP practice and ask there.

Alternatively, if a phone call is your preferred method of nominating us as your new pharmacy, you can call either your GP practice or our customer service team at 01695 474433.

How to change your pharmacy on the NHS app

Another way to change your nominated pharmacy is to log in to the NHS app on your phone and select 'Order a Repeat Prescription'. However, you can't nominate an online pharmacy like Chemist4U using this method.

Before continuing, you will see your current nominated (sometimes referred to as chosen) pharmacy and will be given the option to change it.

If you order your prescriptions through the NHS app, this may be the easiest way for you to change your pharmacy, and it allows you to check if your pharmacy has changed.

Chemist4U app explained

If you choose to download the Chemist4U app, the benefits go well beyond simply nominating us as your chosen pharmacy.

Instead of leaving you in the dark, our app keeps you up to date on the status of your prescription every step of the way.

It’s not just NHS prescriptions you can track. Any online retail or prescribed medication can be viewed in the app, including access to your delivery information, whether it be with Royal Mail or DPD.

And if you’re ever in need of one-to-one customer support, downloading our app gives you access to a live chat with a real person on our customer service team via WhatsApp. This way, any concerns you have about the whereabouts of your prescription and its current status can be sorted swiftly, leaving you with no worries!
