What are Estradot Conti HRT Patches?

Estradot Conti is a hormone replacement (HRT) patch for postmenopausal people (defined by having no periods for at least a year). It releases two hormones—oestrogen and progestogen—to relieve symptoms like hot flushes.

What strengths of Estradot Conti HRT Patches are available?

There are two strengths of Estradot Conti available. You'll start on the lower strength (30 mcg/95 mcg) for the shortest time needed. If your symptoms aren't well controlled after three months, your prescriber may switch you to the higher strength (40 mcg/130 mcg).

How do Estradot Conti HRT Patches work?

During the menopause, your body stops producing enough oestrogen, which causes symptoms like hot flushes. By replacing these hormones, the patch helps relieve these uncomfortable symptoms.

How to use Estradot Conti patches

When to apply:

· use a new patch every 3-4 days

· apply continuously without stopping

Where to apply:

· upper thigh (side area) works best

· choose skin that doesn't wrinkle much when you move

· do not apply to your breasts

· avoid areas where tight clothing might rub

Before you apply:

· clean the area with water only

· make sure skin is completely dry

· remove any hair

· do not use lotions, oils, gels, sunscreen, or moisturisers

· skin must not be red, irritated, or damaged

Who should consider Estradot Conti HRT Patches

Estradot Conti is for postmenopausal women (those who haven't had a period for at least a year and are experiencing menopause symptoms, particularly hot flushes). It's only suitable if your symptoms are seriously hindering your daily life.

There is limited evidence on how effective this treatment is in those over 65.

Who should avoid Estradot Conti HRT Patches

Do not use Estradot Conti if you’re allergic to any of the ingredients. Do not use if you have or have ever had:

· breast cancer or cancer sensitive to oestrogens, like cancer of the womb lining

· blood clots in your veins or arteries, or a blood-clotting disorder

· heart attack, stroke or angina

· unexplained vaginal bleeding or untreated thickening of your womb lining

· liver disease with abnormal liver function

· porphyria, a rare inherited blood disorder

Estradot Conti HRT Patches side effects

Like all medicines, Estradot Conti may cause side effects in some people, though not everyone will get them.

Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):

· headache

· skin reactions where you apply the patch

· breast tension and pain

· painful or irregular periods

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

Frequently asked questions about Estradot Conti HRT Patches

What’s the difference between Estradot and Evorel Conti?

Estradot and Evorel contain similar hormones and work in the same way to relieve postmenopausal symptoms. The main difference is that Estradot patches are smaller, which some people prefer, while Evorel patches may stick to your skin better. Estradot Conti comes in different strengths to Evorel Conti. What is the most effective HRT patch?

There isn't one ‘most effective’ HRT patch. Effectiveness depends on individual factors like your symptoms, how your body responds to the hormones, and how well the patch sticks to your skin.

Your prescriber will help you find the right patch and dose based on how well it controls your symptoms and how well you tolerate it.
