What are DulcoGlide Suppository Applicators?

DulcoGlide Suppository Applicators are a rectal applicator to be used when inserting suppositories into the rectum. They are convenient and comfortable to use and each pack contains 3 single-use disposable applicators. 

NOTE: This product contains applicators ONLY. Dulcolax Suppositories are sold separately.

What is constipation?

Constipation is a common problem and affects people of all ages. It can usually be treated at home and isn’t often a serious issue. Symptoms of being constipated include:

• Not passing a stool (poo) at least 3 times in a week

• Stools are often difficult to push out and larger than usual

• Stools are often dry, hard or lumpy

• Stomach ache or feeling sick

Constipation has many possible causes and sometimes there is no obvious reason, but the most common causes include:

• Not eating enough fibre- such as fruit, vegetables and cereals

• Not drinking enough fluids

• Not moving enough and spending long periods sitting or lying in bed

• Being less active and not exercising

• Often ignoring the urge to go to the toilet

• Changing your diet or daily routine

• A side effect of a medicine

• Stress, anxiety or depression

• Common during pregnancy and for 6 weeks after giving birth

• Caused by a medical condition (rare cases)

Faecal Impaction

Long-term constipation can lead to a condition called faecal impaction, which is where faeces (poo) has built up in your rectum. The main symptom of this is diarrhoea after a long bout of constipation.

How to use DulcoGlide Suppository Applicators

Ensure your hands are clean by washing them with soap and water before drying thoroughly. Remove the single-use applicator from the wrapper and remove the wrapper from the suppository (sold separately). 

Place the blunt end of the suppository into the open end of the applicators barrel, ensuring you do not force the suppository as it will stop when it is in the correct position within the applicator.

Lie on your side with your upper leg bent towards your chest whilst keeping your lower leg straight. 

Holding the base of the applicator’s barrel between your thumb and middle finger, carefully insert the applicator into the rectum. 

Once the flared tip of the applicator is inside your body, use your index (pointer) finger to push the plunger to release the suppository. 

Take care to NOT force the applicator into the rectum as this may cause injury.

Remove the applicator and dispose of it immediately after use - do NOT flush down the toilet.

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly after use.
