What is Babystart FertilTime Ovulation Test Midstream?

Babystart FertilTime Ovulation Test Midstream allows you to determine the 2 best days to conceive by detecting the LH surges in your urine. If you’re trying for a baby, you will have a higher chance of conceiving while you’re ovulating; this is around 12-16 days before your period starts. This easy-to-use test is 99% accurate and will provide you with results in as little as 5 minutes. This product contains 5 tests.

How to use this product

Always use Babystart FertilTime Ovulation Test Midstream exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Use the table in the pack to work out which day of your cycle you should start testing. Try to test around the same time each day and reduce your fluid intake around 2 hours before testing.

To use, take a test stick out of the foil and remove the cap, replacing it on the opposite end of the test to elongate the device to avoid urine splashing onto your hand. Hold the test by the thumb grip and place the absorbent tip in your urine stream for at least 10 seconds or immerse the absorbent tip in a urine sample for 10 seconds. Be careful not to get urine on the testing windows. Replace the cap, wiping off any excess urine and lay the test flat with the windows facing upwards. Read your result after 5 minutes. If no red lines appear, wait a further minute. Do not read the results after 10 minutes.

Reading the results is simple. If you only see a single red line in the control window and no red line in the heart-shaped test window, your LH surge has not been detected and the test is negative, meaning you’re not ovulating. Try another test tomorrow. If you see a line in the control window and lighter red line in the heart-shaped test window this is also a negative result.

If you see a red line in the control window and an equal or darker red line in the heart-shaped test window, your LH surge has been detected and you have reached your most fertile time. This is a positive result. You should have sex within the next 48 hours. There is no need to test again during this cycle. If no red lines appear in the control window then the test is invalid and you should repeat the test.

Why should you take an ovulation test?

There’s a short time period each month when it’s best for a woman to conceive, but it can be difficult to know when this time window will be. An ovulation test can give you an idea of your most fertile days so you know the best time to have sex and improve your chances of conception.

How can I increase my chances of conceiving?

If you’re trying for a baby, there are things you can do that can increase your chances of conceiving. You should aim to have sex around the time that you’re ovulating (about 12 - 16 days before your period starts, but you can take an ovulation test for a more accurate reading) or every 2 - 3 days. Try to maintain a healthy weight, stop smoking, reduce your alcohol intake and take a folic acid supplement each day.

Can you use an ovulation test if you have irregular periods?

Yes, you can. Ovulation tests are more accurate if your cycle is regular, but they can still work if your periods are irregular - it just means that you’ll have to test more frequently. Most women will only need to test once a month, but if your periods are irregular, you should start testing a few days after your period and then move on to once per week.

How does an ovulation test work?

An ovulation test is similar to a pregnancy test; you urinate onto the stick and it will detect a level of luteinizing hormone (LH) which signals ovulation. While they’re not 100 percent accurate, they tend to have an accuracy of around 99 percent, and you can get your results usually in around 5 minutes.
