What is Alphosyl 2in1 Medicated Shampoo?

Alphosyl Shampoo is a treatment for a number of skin conditions on the scalp that has become irritated and causing problems. This shampoo is suitable to be used by those who are dealing with the effects of eczema, psoriasis, an itchy scalp and dandruff. The active ingredient in this shampoo is coal tar extract. Coal tar extract works by relieving any itchiness and also breaking down any loose skin such as dandruff.

What causes dandruff?

Contrary to what some believe, dandruff is not caused by poor hygiene. Though poor hygiene can make it worse. Dandruff is a result of excess skin cells that are produced by the body, as new cells are being produced too quickly. This causes the old cells to end up in the hair and scalp. This can be a result of:

  • Seborrhoeic dermatitis – A condition where yeast can cause the skin to become scaly
  • Tinea capitis – A fungal infection of the scalp
  • Eczema
  • Allergic contact dermatitis
  • Psoriasis

Dandruff isn’t harmful but can be tricky to get rid of completely.

Who is this shampoo suitable for?

This shampoo can be used by adults and children aged 12 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the shampoo should not use it. It should also not be used for infected, open, or damaged skin. If you are suffering from a form of psoriasis known as acute pustular psoriasis, then do not use this shampoo. If you have any other condition or using any medication, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this shampoo?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should seek the advice of a medical professional before using this shampoo.

How should Alphosyl 2in1 Medicated Shampoo be used?

Wet the hair thoroughly before use. Use the shampoo and cover the whole of the scalp and hair, and anywhere else affected. Massage the scalp using the fingertips to get the shampoo deep into the scalp. Rinse the hair thoroughly afterwards. Use 1-2 times a week. The shampoo should only be on the scalp for a maximum of 5 minutes across both uses. If symptoms persist after use, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U for advice.
