What is Nurofen FeverSmart Temperature Monitor?

Nurofen FeverSmart Temperature Monitor is a baby thermometer to monitor your child’s temperature. This monitor allows continuous real-time temperature monitoring without disturbing your child as traditional thermometers do.

What can cause a fever?

A temperature of over 37.5°C for children younger than 3 months or 39°C for children aged 3-6 months, is classed as a fever. Fevers are typically caused by infections or other illnesses. The high body temperature makes it more difficult for bacteria and viruses that cause infections to survive.

Common illnesses that can cause fever include:

  • Upper respiratory tract infections (e.g. a cold).
  • Flu.
  • Ear infections.
  • Roseola- a virus that causes a temperature and a rash.
  • Tonsillitis.
  • Kidney or urinary tract infections.
  • Common childhood illnesses, such as chickenpox and whooping cough.
  • Post-immunisation.

What is included with this product?

This product includes four refill patches for your Nurofen FeverSmart meter. These are the adhesive patches that are placed on your child to measure their temperature.

How does Nurofen Feversmart work?

These refill self-adhesive patches are used with the Nurofen FeverSmart monitor, which are placed beneath your child’s armpit whilst they sleep. The metal monitor sits against their skin and accurately reads your child’s temperature every 60 seconds before sending the reading to your smartphone via the FeverSmart app. If your child’s temperature rises to moderate or high levels, you will receive a push notification on your phone to alert you to the change in temperature. It will also send you notifications if the temperature on the monitor drops rapidly, as this could indicate that the monitor patch has fallen off, so you can make the adjustments needed to get the monitor working effectively again. You can also use the FeverSmart app to track the medication you have administered to your child, set up notifications to remind you when to administer another dose and record their symptoms.

What temperature should my child be?

The FeverSmart Monitor is pre-programmed with temperature ranges, which differ depending on the age of your child. If your child’s temperature is within these ranges, the FeverSmart app will show you one of three colours:

  0 – 3 months

  4 – 36 months

  3 years and over

  Normal

  34.7 – 36.9 degrees C

  34.7 – 37.3 degrees C

  35.9 – 36.7 degrees C

  Moderate

  37.0 – 37.9 degrees C

  37.4 – 37.9 degrees C

  36.8 – 38.4 degrees C

  High

  Over 38 degrees C

  Over 38 degrees C

  Over 38.5 degrees C

These ranges should be used as a rule, as your child’s natural temperature may be slightly different.

How to use the Nurofen Temperature Monitor Refills?

You can set up and start using the Nurofen Temperature Monitor in just a few steps.

Apply the adhesive patch to monitor.

Warm-up & Use

The Monitor will then warm up. This can take up to 8 minutes. During warm-up and use, ensure the child’s arm is covering the end of the Monitor with the metal sensor.

Base Station

The base station boosts the Bluetooth signal from the monitor. The base station must be kept within 1.5m from the monitor for it to boost the signal effectively. Ensure that the base station is kept out of reach of your child.

Important Reminders

  • Bluetooth communication consumes phone battery, ensure your phone is sufficiently charged to stay powered throughout the use period or plug it in when in use.
  • You can leave the app at any time however do NOT close the app down as your temperature session will be lost.
  • Ensure push notifications are enabled on your phone’s settings and your phone is NOT muted or on ‘do not disturb’
  • Remember to check on your child regularly for signs and symptoms of illness.
  • Ensure your child’s arm is down and covering the temperature sensor at all times.

How long will each adhesive patch last for?

Each adhesive patch can last for up to 24 hours of use. This can vary depending on your child’s skin type and you may wish to change the patch more regularly if they have sensitive skin which becomes uncomfortable while using the patch.

When should the FeverSmart monitor NOT be used?

The Nurofen FeverSmart is not suitable for use in premature babies, babies who are considered to have a low birth weight or babies who are small for their gestational age. If your child experiences any skin sensitivity, such as a rash or irritation, while using this product, stop use and ask your doctor for advice. Do not use on broken, damaged, or irritated skin. Avoid applying the adhesive patch to an area which has excessive body hair, as this can make removing the monitor difficult. For indoor use only. Do not submerge in water, and remove a monitor before a bath or shower. Keep the monitor out of the child’s mouth. Do not use this product at the same time as MRI or CT equipment. This product should not be used to monitor, detect, or diagnose hypothermia. Read the instruction manual which comes with this product carefully before use.

Storage.

Store in a cool, dry place which is out of direct sunlight. Keep out of sight and reach of children when not in use.
