What is E45 Eczema Repair Cream?

E45 Eczema Repair Cream is a scientifically proven emollient cream, designed to treat symptoms of eczema. It works to help repair the skin barrier to retain moisture for 24 hours and prevent irritants from entering the skin to avoid triggering new flare-ups.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy, dry and cracked. Some people only have small patches of skin that are affected, but others may experience eczema all over the body. Although it can affect any part of the body, it most often affects the hands, insides of the elbows, backs of the knees, face and scalp. Eczema usually has periods when symptoms are less noticeable, as well as periods when symptoms are more severe, these are known as flare-ups.

When to see a doctor.

If you experience some of the following symptoms and you’ve not previously had a diagnosis for eczema, seek advice from your GP:

  • Visibly irritated red skin in the creases of your skin
  • A history of skin irritation occurring in the same areas mentioned above
  • Generally dry skin in the last 12 months
  • A history of asthma or hay fever

How can E45 Eczema Repair help to ease symptoms of eczema?

E45 Eczema Repair provides a protective layer that helps to lock moisture into the skin and helps to keep irritants out to avoid flare-ups from occurring. E45 Eczema Repair contains a high level of humectants which draw water into the skin as well as omega fatty acids to help repair the skin barrier and keep skin moisturised for 24 hours, which helps to ease very dry and itchy skin caused by eczema.

What are omega fatty acids?

Omega fatty acids are the building blocks of the skin’s surface which create smoother, healthier-looking skin. Some benefits of what omega fatty acids can do for your skin include:

  • Reinforce and smooth the skin’s surface
  • Provide light-weight hydration
  • Soothe irritation including redness and sensitivity
  • Visibly strengthens the skin against signs of environmental damage

Self-care to help symptoms of eczema

There are many measures you can integrate into your daily routine to ease the symptoms of eczema.

Moisturise your skin at least twice a day

Use a product or a combination of products that keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. You could try bath oils, creams, lotions or sprays to find the right skincare solution for you.

Try:

Apply an anti-itch cream to the affected area

Apply the cream no more than twice a day to the affected after moisturising. Using a moisturiser before the anti-itch cream helps the cream to penetrate the skin better. Scratching your skin can cause cuts and bleeding that can lead to infection, reducing itchiness can prevent you from scratching and therefore limit the chance of infection.

Try:

Don’t scratch

Rather than scratching, try pressing the skin. Cover the itchy area, if possible, to prevent scratching.

Choose mild cleansers

Use gentle cleansers that that don’t contain perfumes, dyes or harsh soaps. Using cleansers that contain moisturising properties can be beneficial for dry, irritated skin and symptoms of eczema.

Try:

Wear cool, smooth-textured clothing

Reduce irritation by avoiding tight, rough or scratchy clothing. Instead choose loose clothing made from a material that allows your skin to breathe, such as cotton.

Treat stress and anxiety

Stress and other emotional disorders can worsen eczema.

What are emollients?

Emollients are moisturising treatments that are applied to the skin to soothe and provide hydration. They work by providing a protective film over the skin to trap in moisture. They also help to prevent inflammation and flare-ups of eczema and other dry skin conditions. Emollients can be applied as often as needed to keep the skin moisturised. Emollients should be applied as soon as the skin has been patted dry, to make sure it is properly absorbed.
