What Rosacea treatment can do

Rosacea is characterised by redness across your nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. You may also experience a burning or stinging sensation when washing your face with water or skincare products.

Prescription-strength rosacea treatments are available in different types of topical applications, including gels and creams.

One treatment option is metronidazole (Rozex, Metrogel), a type of medicine called a nitroimidazole antibiotic which works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Another option is brimonidine (Mirvaso) which works by narrowing the blood vessels in the applied area, meaning skin appears less red and flushed.

You could also try topical ivermectin (Soolantra), an antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory properties that may help to reduce redness and swelling. Azelaic acid (Finacea) can also help to reduce symptoms of rosacea.
