Asthma

Asthma is a common long-term condition that causes symptoms like coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and breathlessness. It’s caused by inflammation in the small tubes known as bronchi which can be found in the lungs, making them more sensitive than normal.

Although asthma can be controlled most of the time, it’s possible for some people to experience more persistent symptoms. When asthma becomes worse suddenly, it’s known as an asthma attack.

How do Asthma treatments work?

There are two main types of asthma treatments: preventers and relievers.

Reliever inhalers (blue inhalers) are used during asthma attacks to help reduce the inflammation in your airways and ease your symptoms within a few minutes.

Preventative medicines like inhalers and tablets are used every day to help manage your symptoms on a day-to-day basis with the aim of reducing or preventing asthma attacks.

Common asthma triggers include dust mites, animal fur, exercise and pollen, so reliever and preventative treatments work together to help you manage your condition in any situation.

There are many forms of asthma medication available that can be used to manage symptoms of asthma, including the Ventolin Evohaler which helps to prevent asthma attacks.
