What is Chesty Cough Expectorant?

Chesty cough expectorant is a clear syrup containing the two active ingredients diphenhydramine hydrochloride and levomenthol. It is used to relieve coughing and congestion related to common cold and flu.

Active ingredients: Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (14mg) and levomenthol (2mg).

How should chesty cough expectorant be taken?

Adults and children over the age of 12: take two 5ml spoonfuls, four times a day.

Do not exceed more than 4 doses in any 24 hour period.


When should chesty cough expectorant be taken?

Chesty cough expectorant is suitable for soothing and relieving coughs caused by common cold and flu. The active ingredients work to relieve chesty cough and dry secretions in the nose.


When should chesty cough expectorant not be taken?

Chesty cough expectorant is not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet. Chesty cough expectorant should not be taken if you; have a cough for a few weeks that might be caused by asthma or a cough that brings up a lot of mucus or are taking drugs for depression (MAOI’s). You should consult your GP or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you suffer from liver or kidney problems, have difficulty passing water, have narrow-angle glaucoma, have an intolerance to some sugars, are taking any medicines containing codeine or if you are taking any other medicines.
