What are Cl-ear Express Ear Drops?

Cl-ear Express Ear Drops are an effective treatment for the build-up of hard earwax. These ear drops contain the active ingredient urea hydrogen peroxide (5% w/w) with glycerol. Urea hydrogen peroxide works to soften and break up hard earwax, helping to relieve symptoms such as pain or partial hearing loss.

How to use these ear drops

To use Cl-ear Express Ear Drops, tilt your head to one side with the affected ear facing upwards. It might help to lie down on your side, as you’ll need to keep the solution in your ear for a few minutes.

Drop 3 to 6 drops into the ear without letting the nozzle touch or enter the ear canal. Gently massage around the outside of the ear and keep the drops in for a few minutes. After that, rinse with lukewarm water to remove any remaining earwax. Always wipe down the nozzle after each use with some clean cotton wool.

You can use Cl-ear Express Ear Drops once or twice a day for up to 6 days if necessary. If the earwax is still causing issues after 6 days, speak to your doctor for expert advice.

How does urea hydrogen peroxide work?

Urea hydrogen peroxide is an active ingredient that has long been used as an effective treatment for the build-up of hard earwax. It works by releasing oxygen to create effervescence (fizzing), and this movement causes the hard earwax to break up. Cl-ear Express Ear Drops combine urea hydrogen peroxide with glycerol, an ingredient that helps to soften the wax.

What are the symptoms of earwax build-up?

Everyone’s ears contain earwax and it usually just falls out by itself. Sometimes, however, it can build up and block your ears, causing the following symptoms:

  • Hearing loss

  • Earache or a feeling that your ears are blocked

  • Ringing or buzzing in your ears (tinnitus)

  • Vertigo (feeling dizzy and sick)

These symptoms can be unpleasant or bothersome, but earwax build-up is a common problem that can usually be resolved quickly and easily with simple treatments like Cl-ear Express Ear Drops.

When should this product not be used?

Cl-ear Express Ear Drops will usually be suitable for most adults and children, but you should always read the patient information leaflet before use to make sure this medicine is right for you. Children should receive a medical diagnosis before using these ear drops. You should not use this medicine if:

  • You are allergic to urea hydrogen peroxide or any of the other ingredients

  • Your ear is infected, inflamed or bleeding

  • Your eardrum is ruptured

If you are using any other medication in your ears, or you’ve recently had your ear syringed, speak to a Chemist4U pharmacist before using Cl-ear Express Ear Drops.

Are there any side effects?

Cl-ear Express Ear Drops are unlikely to cause any side effects. You may experience a bubbling sensation in the ear when using the drops due to the effervescence caused by urea hydrogen peroxide. If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme
