Can I use this product if I’m taking other medication?
If you’re taking any other medication, including herbal remedies or medicines you obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Betadine Dry Powder Spray. This especially applies if you are already taking lithium, which is used for depression, as the combination of the two medications can affect your thyroid gland.
How to use this product
Before using Betadine Dry Powder Spray, shake the can well. Hold the can around 6 - 10 inches or 15 - 25cm away from the area you wish to treat and then spray until a dusting of powder has covered the affected area. You can cover the area with a dressing after use if necessary.
When should this product not be used?
Betadine Dry Powder Spray is not suitable for use in children under the age of 2. Do not use this product if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, avoid contact with eyes or other sensitive areas. This product should only be used on the skin. Avoid inhaling the spray. This product can permanently stain or discolour gold jewellery, so make sure to remove any gold jewellery before use. Do not use this spray:
- If you have a thyroid problem or have ever had a thyroid problem, including swelling
- In serious cavities or wounds
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you:
- Have broken skin, for example, due to a burn
- Have or have ever had a kidney problem
- Are due to have a thyroid test, stool test or urine test
Does Betadine Dry Powder Spray have any side effects?
Like all medications, Betadine Dry Powder Spray can have side effects, although not everyone will experience them. If you experience any of the following side effects you may be having a severe allergic reaction and should seek immediate medical assistance:
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Rash
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
Other side effects you may experience while using this product include:
- Itching
- Burns on your skin
- If you use very large amounts of products that contain povidone-iodine for a long time then you may experience thyroid disorders, showing symptoms such as weight loss or gain, increased appetite, sweating, and lack of energy. You could also experience increased amounts of acid in your blood and kidney failure

How to store this product
Store in a cool, dry place which is below 25 degrees C. Do not use this product if the expiry date printed on the original packaging has passed. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
