What is Beechams Flu Plus Hot Lemon?

This Beechams flu treatment is a pack of sachets that helps to provide fast, effective relief from the flu. The effective relief is thanks to the active ingredients contained in the sachets:

  • Paracetamol
  • Phenylephrine
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)

Paracetamol works as a painkiller that will reduce aches and pains as well as reduce a fever if you have one. Phenylephrine will reduce blockages in the nose caused by the infection thanks to its decongestant properties. Vitamin C helps to reduce the time symptoms are visible when suffering from a cold or flu.

What is the flu?

The flu, short for influenza, is an infection that is caused by a virus. Unlike a cold, where there are many different types, there are only three main types of flu:

  • Type A
  • Type B
  • Type C

Type A and B are the most common types, as they are the ones that go around seasonally. Type C flu causes more minor respiratory issues. The flu can spread through the air by people coughing, sneezing, and also by germs. The germs can live on surfaces for up to 24 hours. The common symptoms associated with the flu include a blocked or a runny nose, coughing, sneezing, a headache, and feeling sick. There are more potential symptoms that you most likely not experience all of them at once.

Who are these Beechams sachets suitable for?

These sachets are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 16 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the sachets should not use them. The sachets should also not be used if you have or had any of the following:

  • Kidney or liver problems
  • An overactive thyroid
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) prescribed for depression
  • Beta-blockers

Do not use Beechams Flu Plus Hot Lemon Sachets if you are currently using any other treatment for a cold or flu.

Can these Beechams sachets be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?

These Beechams sachets should not be used by anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding unless advised to do so by a doctor.

How should Beechams Flu Plus Hot Lemon Sachets be used?

Use all of the contents of a single sachet and empty them into a mug and then half fill it with warm water. Use one sachet every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not use more than four sachets in a 24-hour period. Do not use for more than a week unless advised by a doctor.

Are there any side effects?

Like with many medicines, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects when using these caplets include:

  • An allergic reaction including a skin rash and itching.
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Breathing problems
  • Fevers or infections
  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • A fast or irregular heartbeat
  • A headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Difficulty sleeping

If you notice any of these side effects or any other side effect, then stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
