What is Strepsils Orange with Vitamin C Lozenges?

Strepsils Orange with Vitamin C Lozenges is a treatment for a sore throat that helps to reduce pain and irritation. These lozenges contain two active ingredients that help to treat a sore throat. These are:

  • Amylmetacresol
  • 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol

Both of these ingredients are antiseptics that helps to kill the bacteria in the mouth and throat. These lozenges also contain another active ingredient, vitamin C. In this case, vitamin C comes in the form of ascorbic acid. Vitamin C in these lozenges helps to restore vitamin C that is said to be lost when suffering from an infection.

What causes a sore throat?

A sore throat can be the result of a number of different conditions. Some of the potential conditions are:

  • A cold
  • The Flu
  • An allergy
  • Smoking
  • Heartburn/acid reflux
  • Tonsillitis
  • Laryngitis (inflammation of the voice box)

Most of the time, a sore throat is not serious and generally goes after a week. If you have a sore throat and it stays sore for longer, speak to a doctor as it could be a sign of a more serious condition.

Who are these lozenges suitable for?

These lozenges are suitable for adults and children aged 6 and over. Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the lozenges should not use them. They should also not be used by anyone who has problems with sugars, including glucose, fructose, and sucrose. If you are using any medication for any other condition, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these lozenges?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to a medical professional before using.

How should Strepsils Orange with Vitamin C Lozenges be used?

Use one lozenge and allow it to dissolve in the mouth. Use a lozenge every 2-3 hours as needed, but no more than 12 in a day. If symptoms persist after 3 days, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

Are there any side effects?

There is a small chance of side effects. Potential side effects will most likely be a result of an allergic reaction. If you notice a side effect, stop using and consult a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
