What are Strepsils Honey & Lemon Lozenges?

Strepsil Honey & Lemon Lozenges are a form of treatment that works to relieve the effects of a sore throat and mouth pains. They work thanks to the active ingredients that are in the lozenges. These are:

  • Amylmetacresol
  • 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol

Both of these active ingredients are mild antiseptics that work to kill bacteria in the mouth and throat. As well as killing the bacteria, these lozenges will also provide a soothing feeling as well as lubricating the mouth and throat.


What causes mouth and throat infections?

Infections in the mouth and throat are generally caused by viruses such as a cold or the flu. They can also be caused by allergies, tonsillitis, or laryngitis (inflammation of the voice box) as well. The infections can occur by germs getting into the mouth by someone sneezing or coughing. As well as that, germs on the hands can end up on food and drinks.


Who are these lozenges suitable for?

These Strepsils lozenges are suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 and over. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients that are contained in the lozenges or is hypersensitive to some types of sugar. If you are using any other types of medication, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.


Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these lozenges?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding should seek medical advice before using these lozenges.


How should Strepsils Honey & Lemon Lozenges be used?

Use one lozenge and dissolve in the mouth. Use a lozenge every 2-3 hours, with a maximum of 12 lozenges in a 24-hour period. If symptoms persist or get worse, then speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.


Are there any side effects?

There is a chance of side effects, as a result of an allergic reaction over overdose. If you notice any side effect, then stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
