What are Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops?
Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops are a gentle treatment for ears that are blocked by ear wax. They soften ear wax that is built up in your ear, making it easier to remove and unblocking your ears. Ideal for those suffering from blocked ears and looking for a simple solution.
What is Sodium Bicarbonate?
Sodium bicarbonate, more commonly known as baking soda, is traditionally a salt that is used to expand batter for several different types of food. It is used in cleaning products because of its ability to remove rust and stains. In medical terms, sodium bicarbonate is used as an antacid to treat heartburn and indigestion.
Why are my ears blocked with earwax?
There are many reasons why earwax may build up in your ear canal and cause blocked ears. Some of the most common reasons for ear wax blockage are:
- Your ears produce a lot of wax – some people produce more ear wax than others.
- Your age – as you get older ear wax gets harder and becomes more difficult to remove naturally.
- Your ear canals are hairy.
- Your ear canals are narrow.
- You use hearing aids, earplugs, or other devices in your ear – they may push ear wax further into the ear.
How will these ear drops clear my earwax?
Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops help to soften any hard or built-up wax in your ears, making it easier to be removed by a doctor or nurse. This also helps ear wax to fall out naturally, clearing the blockage in your ear.
How to use Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops.
To begin, tilt your head sideways with the ear you wish to treat facing up. Place 3 or 4 drops of Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops into the ear using the dropper, taking care not to touch the ear with the dropper. Keep your head tilted for a few minutes to allow the drops to reach your eardrum, then use a tissue to clear away any drops that have run out of the ear. Repeat with the other ear if necessary. For best results, use drops twice a day for up to 7 days.

How long can sodium bicarbonate ear drops be kept after opening?
These should be discarded after three months of opening.
What does Sodium bicarbonate do that olive oil can't?
Sodium bicarbonate / bicarbonate of soda ear drops are alkaline, while ear wax is acidic. Therefore they work by chemically dissolving ear wax rather than softening it, and work much quicker than olive oil. They can be used for a day or two by most people without any problem.
When using the Sodium Bicarbonate drops it has blocked by ear more and slight loss of hearing, is this normal for it to work? There is no pain just uncomfortable, after reading things online it says this is normal as the drops swell the ear wax before it dissolves but I wanted to check?
- Use the drops twice a day for 3-5 days. This is usually sufficient to soften the wax, but if your symptoms do not improve, make an appointment to see your doctor for further advice.
- Do not try to clean inside your ear with cotton buds. If you stick buds or other objects into your ear they can compact the wax and make matters worse. Just wipe the outside of your ear with a clean cloth or tissue if any wax comes out on its own. Flakes or crusts of earwax often fall out bit by bit. You may not notice the wax as it comes out of your ear.
- Sodium bicarbonate ear drops can sometimes cause dryness in your ear canal, but this is rarely troublesome. It is unlikely that you will experience any other side-effects but speak with your doctor or pharmacist if there is anything that concerns you.
