What is Care+ Magnesium Sulphate Paste?
Care+ Magnesium Sulphate Paste is a topical treatment for skin infections such as boils and carbuncles. Both boils and carbuncles are skin complaints that can cause discomfort and be unsightly.
What are boils?
Boils are red, painful lumps that appear on the skin and are usually caused by a minor skin infection. Boils can develop anywhere on your skin but they are more likely to appear on an area that has a combination of hair, sweat and friction, such as the face, neck or thighs. Pus forms inside the boil which makes it bigger and more painful over time. After a period of a time (usually between 2 days and 3 weeks) most boils will burst and the pus drains away without leaving a scar. It can sometimes be tricky to identify a boil compared with a spot, but boils usually grow bigger and are more painful than spots.
What are carbuncles?
Carbuncles are clusters of boils that are dome-shaped and usually develop over a few days. These clusters usually affect the back, thighs or the back of the neck and can grow to a size of 3-10cm and will leak pus. If you are suffering from carbuncles you may also experience a high temperature of 38°C or above, feel unwell, weak and exhausted. Carbuncles are less common than boils and are more likely to affect middle-aged or older men with poor health or a weak immune system.
What causes boils and carbuncles?
Boils and carbuncles are usually caused by a type of bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus which infects 1 or more hair follicles. A boil can appear when bacteria enters the skin through cuts and scrapes. The immune system responds to this infection by sending white blood cells to kill the bacteria. A build-up of dead bacteria, dead blood cells and dead skin cells forms pus inside the boil. A carbuncle develops when the bacteria infection spread further beneath the skin to create a cluster of boils.
How does Magnesium Sulphate help treat minor skin infections and boils?
Magnesium Sulpate paste helps to treat boils and carbuncles by drawing moisture from the affected area. This dries up the boil which helps to alleviate the pain and discomfort, as well as helping to support the healing process.
How to use Magnesium Sulphate
Before using Magnesium Sulphate Paste, stir the paste well. Apply the paste liberally to the affected area, then cover with a clean dressing. If symptoms do not improve, speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.
When NOT to use this product?
Do not use Magnesium Sulphate Paste if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients. Do not expose product to direct sunlight or moisture.
Like all medications, Magnesium Sulphate Paste can have side effects, although not everyone gets them. If you experience any side effects while using this product, stop use and speak to your doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist right away.
