What is Active Folic?

Active Folic contains Quatrefolic®, a source of L-Methyl folate which provides folic acid in an active naturally occurring form, folate. Active Folic delivers 3x greater absorption than standard folic acid, suitable for anyone who needs to supplement their folate intake, including women before, during and after pregnancy.

What is the recommended dosage?

Take one Active Folic capsule per day (or two if advised by a healthcare professional). Take with water. Do not exceed the daily dose without consulting your doctor or pharmacist. Taking a food supplement can be beneficial for your health if you don’t get enough essential vitamins and minerals through your diet alone. This product is not, however, a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Why do pregnant women need to take folic acid?

If you’re pregnant or trying to conceive, the NHS recommends that you should take a 400 microgram folic acid supplement every day until you’re 12 weeks pregnant. This is because folic acid helps to form the neural tube and low levels of the vitamin could lead to major birth defects of your baby’s brain. It is best to start taking folic acid before you’re pregnant, as birth defects can occur within the first 3-4 weeks of pregnancy, so make sure you’re getting your daily dose whilst trying to conceive.

When should this product not be used?

Active Folic will be suitable for most people over the age of 12, but you should check with your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or take any other medications or herbal remedies, including those obtained without a prescription.

Are there any side effects?

It is very unlikely that you will experience any side effects from taking this supplement. If you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, skin rash) seek medical attention immediately. If you experience any side effects, including those that are not listed in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
