What is Savlon Dual Action Gel?

Savlon Dual Action Gel is an antiseptic that can prevent infections in minor wounds, and with the added enrichment of anaesthetic, it provides numbing pain relief against skin reactions (such as a nettle rash), itchiness and irritation. If you’re looking for a caring, effective treatment to not only prevent infections but to also soothe pain, try Savlon Dual Action Gel.

How to use this product

Always use Savlon Dual Action Gel exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. Wash and dry hands prior to use. Then, using as much product as required, apply the gel onto the affected area. Repeat 3 - 4 times per day if needed. This gel is not suitable for animal bites. Do not use this product on the eyes or the ears.

What is the difference between antiseptic and antibacterial?

The two sound similar, but they’re quite different. Antibacterial products can effectively kill or slow down the growth of bacteria, but not viruses. Whereas antiseptics can prevent viruses, bacteria and fungi from growing.

What is the best way to treat small wounds?

Most small injuries like cuts and grazes are easily treated in the home and should start to heal within a few days. If the wound is bleeding, apply pressure to the affected area using a clean, dry and absorbent material such as a bandage, towel or handkerchief for several minutes. If the cut is on your hand or arm, raise it above your head to help reduce the flow of blood to the injured area. If the injury is on the leg or foot, lie down and raise your legs.

When the wound has stopped bleeding, clean it thoroughly. Wash and dry your hands and clean the wound by placing it under clean water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel. Apply an antiseptic, like Savlon, if required, followed by a sterile, adhesive dressing. Keep the dressing clean by changing it when necessary. Check the wound regularly and if it’s closed, you can remove the dressing.

Is Savlon Dual Action Gel suitable for children?

Savlon Dual Action Gel is suitable for use for adults and children aged 12 years and over. If you’re looking for an antiseptic for a child younger than 12, speak to a Chemist4U pharmacist for advice on alternative treatments.

When should this product not be used?

Savlon Dual Action Gel may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. This product is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, middle ear and other nervous tissues. This product is not suitable for children under the age of 12. This product shouldn’t be used to treat animal bites.

Are there any side effects?

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
