What is Numark Children’s Dry Cough?

Numark Children’s Dry Cough is a liquid treatment that provides relief for a dry, tickly cough. The active ingredient in this medicine is glycerin. Glycerin, also known as glycerol, is a compound that has a sweet taste and works as a lubricant to soothe an irritated throat and mouth. As well as a lubricant, glycerin is also found in toothpaste, hair care products, and soaps. It is also used is some laxatives.

 

What causes a dry cough?

A dry cough, unlike a chesty or a mucus cough, does not produce any fluids and is not caused by mucus build-up. Instead, it is caused by an irritant in the throat the is the likely result of a virus, such as a cold or the flu, or an allergy.

 

Who is this dry cough medicine suitable for?

This medicine is suitable to be used by children aged 1 and over. It can also be used by adults. Do not use this medicine if allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the medicine. Consult a doctor before using if you any of the following applies:

  • Have kidney problems
  • Intolerant to some sugars
  • Are diabetic
  • Using products containing potassium tartrate, carbonates, or bicarbonates

You should also speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist if you are using any other form of medication.

 

Can someone who is pregnant sue this medicine?

Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding and needs treatment for a dry cough speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using.

 

How should Numark Children’s Dry Cough be used?

For children aged 1-5, use 2.5ml and give to them up to four times a day. For children aged 6-12, increase the dose to 5ml and children over 12 and adults can have 10ml if necessary. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. If symptoms persist after using, speak to a medical professional.

 

Are there any side effects?

Because it is a medicine, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects can be the result of an allergic reaction or exceeding the recommended dosage. If you notice any side effect, then stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
