Naprosyn contains 250mg of the active ingredient naproxen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain, swelling, redness, and heat. It can be used for the short-term relief of muscle and joint pain, sprains, strains, inflammation caused by sporting injuries, lower back pain, neck pain, and pain in the wrists or feet.
How to use Naprosyn
Always take Naprosyn exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
You should:
- swallow the tablets whole with a little water, with or after food
- not crush or chew the tablets
- drink plenty of water while taking Naprosyn
- not take Naprosyn for more than three days, unless advised by a healthcare professional
For adults aged 18-50, on the first day:
- take two tablets (500mg)
- take one more tablet (250mg) after six to eight hours, if needed
On the second and third day:
- take one tablet (250mg) every six to eight hours if needed
Naprosyn is for short-term use only. If your symptoms don't improve or get worse, speak to your pharmacist or doctor.
When to avoid Naprosyn
- Don’t take Naprosyn if you’re allergic to naproxen, naproxen sodium, aspirin, or other NSAIDs.
- Don’t take this medicine if you've ever had stomach or gut ulcers, bleeding in the stomach or intestines, or if you’ve ever experienced bleeding or perforation in your stomach while taking other NSAIDs or aspirin.
- Don't take Naprosyn if you’re taking oral corticosteroids, anticoagulants (like warfarin), SSRIs, or antiplatelet agents (like aspirin). Always tell your prescriber if you’re taking/using any other medicines beforehand.
- Don't take this medicine while pregnant or breastfeeding. Always tell your prescriber if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding before taking any new medicine.
- Naprosyn is unsuitable for anyone under the age of 18. It’s not recommended in those over the age of 50.
- Sometimes, this medicine can cause side effects that impact your alertness and vision. It’s important not to drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
How to store your treatment
Keep out of sight and reach of children. Don't use after the expiry date printed on the pack. Store in the original packaging below 30°C and keep away from direct light.
