What are Hedex Extra Tablets?

Hedex Extra Tablets are painkillers that have been specifically formulated to provide extra relief from discomfort caused by headaches and migraines. This product can also be used for fever, sore throat, aches and pains caused by cold and flu. The active ingredient in this product is paracetamol, which is a common pain killer and caffeine which helps to speed up the effects of paracetamol for quick and effective relief from pain.

 

What causes headaches?

Headaches are a common ailment that can be caused by a variety of factors, but are not usually something to worry about and can be easily treated. There are many factors that cause a headache, but the most common causes are:

  • Cold and flu
  • Stress
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Bad posture
  • Eyesight issues
  • Not eating regular meals or staying hydrated
  • Menstruation (periods) or menopause

Headaches can last from 30 minutes to several hours, but there are a variety of steps you can take to ease your symptoms including:

  • Staying hydrated
  • Ensuring you are getting plenty of rest
  • Try to relax
  • Exercise if possible
  • Take painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Do NOT skip meals
  • Try not to sleep excessively as this can cause your headache to become worse
  • Do NOT strain your eyes for long periods of time

What is a migraine?

A migraine is a moderate or severe headache which usually causes a throbbing pain on one side of the head. It can cause a variety of symptoms including nausea, vomiting and an increased sensitivity to light or sound. It’s a common condition which usually begins in early adulthood. There are a few different types of migraines including:

  • Migraine with aura – a migraine that starts with specific warning signs, such as flashing lights
  • Migraine without aura – the most common type of migraine which occurs without any prior warning signs
  • Migraine aura without headache – also known as the silent migraine, this is where other migraine symptoms are experienced without a headache

There are many different potential triggers that can cause a migraine including:

  • Beginning of a period
  • Stress
  • Tiredness
  • Certain foods and drinks

 

How can Hedex Extra help to treat headaches?

The active ingredients in Hedex are paracetamol, which is a common painkiller and caffeine. Paracetamol can be used to relieve pain, including headaches and migraines, as well as reduce fever. When paracetamol is taken alone, it can take up to an hour for it to work, however Hedex Extra combines paracetamol with caffeine which helps it get to work faster and relieve the symptoms of your headache or migraine quicker. Hedex Extra can also be used to treat other pains including:

  • Backache
  • Rheumatic and muscle pain
  • Toothache
  • Sore throat
  • Period pain
  • Fever
  • Aches and pains caused by cold and flu

 

How to take this product

This product is not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Adults and children aged over 16: swallow 2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed.

Do NOT take more frequently than every 4 hours and do NOT take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.

Children aged 12-15 years: swallow 1 tablet every 4-6 hours as required.

Do NOT take more frequently than every 4 hours and do NOT take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours.

Warnings

  • Do NOT take more than the recommended dose
  • Do NOT give to children under 12 years
  • Avoid too much caffeine in drinks like coffee and tea, as a high caffeine intake can cause difficulty sleeping, shaking and an uncomfortable feeling in the chest

 

When should this product NOT be used?

Do NOT take this Hedex Tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product (see ingredients tab for full list) or if you are taking any other medicines that contain paracetamol. This product is NOT suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor or a Chemist4U pharmacist BEFORE using this product if you have liver or kidney disease, including alcoholic liver disease.

 

Can you take this product with other medicines?

Seek advice from your doctor or a Chemist4U pharmacist BEFORE taking Hedex if you are takin any prescribed medicines, especially:

  • Metoclopramide
  • Domperidone
  • Anticoagulants
  • Cholestyramine

 

Side effects

Like all medicines, Hedex can cause side effects, although note everyone will experience them.

Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • Allergic reactions – skin rash, itching, swelling of the mouth or face, shortness of breath
  • Skin rash, peeling or mouth ulcers
  • Breathing problems
  • Unexplained bruising or bleeding
  • Nausea
  • Sudden weightloss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Yellowing of the eyes and skin
