What are Evolve® Hypromellose Eye Drops?

Evolve ® Hypromellose are eye drops that are used to relieve discomfort caused by dry eye sensations. They contain Hypromellose 0.3% in a 10ml preservative multi-dose bottle which has been designed to combine the benefit of unit dose with the convenience of a standard eye drop bottle. This product is suitable for dry eyes affected by factors in the environment, such as wind or smoke and excessive screen use.

 

 

What are dry eye sensations?

Dry eye sensations are a common problem and are rarely serious. They occur when our eyes don’t produce enough moisture and can cause discomfort as well as other symptoms including:

• A scratchy feeling or the feeling like there is something in your eye
• Stinging or burning sensation
• Red eyes
• Sensitivity to light
• Blurry vision
• Eyes that are more watery than normal

Causes of dry eyes

Some people are more to experience dry eyes than others. You may be more likely to suffer from dry eye sensations if you:

• Are over the age of 50
• Wear contact lenses
• Spend a lot of time on screens, such as phones and computers
• Spend time in air-conditioned or heated environments
• Infrequent blinking
• Certain medical treatments including refractive laser eye surgery
• Are exposed to the elements frequently e.g. wind, cold temperatures and dry or dusty air
• Smoke or drink alcohol
• Are taking certain medicines (for example, some antidepressants or blood pressure drugs)
• Have a condition such as blepharitis (causes red, swollen eyelids), Sjögren’s syndrome (causes dry eyes and mouth)

When to see a doctor

There are many steps you can take to deal with dry eyes, but seek medical advice if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• You still have dry eyes after a few weeks, despite taking measures to improve them
• There is any change in the shape of your eyelids
• You have any changes in your vision, such as loss of vision

 

 

How does Evolve® Hypromellose work?

Evolve eye drops provide lubrication to relieve discomfort that arises from dry eye sensation. They help to soothe sore eyes caused by environmental factors. This product is compatible with all contact lenses. It contains Hypromellose which is used to relieve dry eye conditions.

What is Hypromellose?

Hypromellose belongs to a group of medicines known as ocular (eye) lubricants. They act as an artificial tear that keeps the eye moist and relieve dry sensations.

 

 

How to use this product

Check the safety seal before opening a new bottle of Evolve® Hypromellose by ensuring that the six bridges between the tamper-evident ring and the cap are unbroken.

1. Wash and dry your hands before using this product
2. Rotate the cap anticlockwise to break the seal
3. Remove the cap
4. Tilt your head back and lookup
5. Gently pull down the lower lid of the eye to form a small pocket between your eyelid and your eye
6. Hold the bottle between your thumb and middle finger of your other hand and apply moderate pressure to the bottle to release one drop of Evolve® Hypromellose into the pocket
7. Blink your eye a couple of times
8. If you think you have missed your eye or not quite dropped the product in the correct part of your eye, insert another drop
9. Wipe away any excess product around the eyelid with a tissue
10. Repeat the process for the other eye, if required
11. Shake the bottle once downwards to remove any excess before replacing the cap on the container, do not touch the applicator tip with anything, including your eye or fingers

Dosage

• The usual dosage is 1 drop 2-4 times a day as required.
• A healthcare professional may advise you to use this product differently, so follow their directions and ALWAYS read the label before using.
• No dosage adjustment is required in children
• Do not deliver more than 30 consecutive drops

 

Warnings

• This product is for external use in your eyes only
• Do not dip the nozzle in any liquid
• Do not touch the tip of the bottle with your eye or any surface
• Do not share this product with any other person
• Leave at least 30 minutes between administrations of any other ophthalmic drugs
• Keep out of the reach and sight of children
• Do not swallow
• Do not store above 25°C
• Discard the bottle 3 months after opening
• Do not try to unscrew or disassemble the nozzle from the bottle
• Do not attempt to refill the bottle

 

 

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Evolve® eye drops can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Note that this product can cause a temporary mild burning sensation and/or blurring of vision after application, but this should shortly subside after application.

 Other possible side effects include:

• Blurred vision
• Eye pain
• Foreign body sensation in eyes
• Eye irritation
• Redness of the eye

These effects should wear off after a short time. If these effects persist or get worse stop using this product immediately and speak to your doctor or a Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

 

 

When NOT to use this product

Do NOT use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product (see ingredients tab for full list). Speak to your doctor or a Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product if you:

• Have developed an eye infection
• Wear contact lenses
• Are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• Recently undergone an eye procedure

Do NOT drive or operate machines if you experience any visual disturbance after using the product, wait until this clears before driving or using machines.

 

 

Important information
