How we are regulated

PrEP (HIV Prevention)

Safe sex is hugely important, especially if you’re a person who is at high risk of getting HIV, a virus that weakens your immune system. HIV can be passed from person to person through bodily fluids and is often passed on during sex or if people share needles while taking drugs.

Over time, HIV can develop into a life-threatening condition called AIDS, which happens when your immune system has been damaged badly enough by the HIV virus. Fortunately, modern medicine has seen the development of PrEP and other treatments which can be used to protect yourself from the virus and help to reduce its spread.

Remember, your final treatment will be decided by our prescribers based on your answers provided within your consultation. You will be asked to indicate a preferred treatment option from a selected list after completion of your consult.

How does PrEP (HIV Prevention) treatments work?

PrEP (also known as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a medication that can reduce your risk of getting HIV, being 92 - 99% effective when taken correctly and can naturally provide even more protection when used in combination with condoms.

It keeps the HIV virus from replicating in your body, effectively keeping it from spreading and keeping you from catching it.

It can be used by those who are at higher risk of coming into contact with HIV, whether that be through sexual intercourse, injections, or other means.

PrEP in the form of Truvada or generic Truvada tablets can be provided by our prescribers after a short consultation where they’ll determine whether this treatment is right for you.

If our team prescribe PrEP for you, your prescription will be sent to our pharmacy team so they can fulfil it and send it directly to you in discreet packaging.
