What is the Clearblue Connected Ovulation Test System?

Clearblue Connected Ovulation Test System is a clinically proven system that identifies 4 or more fertile days in each cycle- these are the days leading up to and including the day of ovulation. Clearblue Connected also has the unique benefit of connecting to your phone via Bluetooth to sync results and display on your phone with a monthly calendar, cycle comparison chart, as well as giving you the ability to set smart reminders, to boost your chances of getting pregnant.

What do ovulation tests detect?

Ovulation tests detect hormonal changes in your body which tell your ovaries to release an egg ready for fertilisation. If these hormones are detected it means that you are having a ‘fertile day’ and can increase your chances of falling pregnant if you have sex. There are two main hormones that ovulation tests detect:

Oestrogen

This is a female sex hormone that helps to regulate your reproductive system. Before you ovulate, your body creates more oestrogen and tells your reproductive system to prepare for pregnancy by creating the ideal environment for sperm to swim through so they can fertilise the egg.

Luteinising Hormone (LH)

When your body produces more oestrogen, it triggers an increase in (LH). This increase tells your ovaries to release the egg and this is when ovulation occurs.

When the ovulation test detects a surge of oestrogen levels, it will notify you that you could be going through a highly fertile period, which can last for a few days. If your ovulation test detects an increase in LH, you could be in a period of peak fertility and you could likely conceive for the next 48 hours.

How do Clearblue Ovulation Tests work?

Every woman is different, so knowing when these days are in advance can give you a better chance of getting pregnant. It typically identifies 4 or more fertile days for more opportunities to get pregnant naturally. It does this by accurately tracking both Oestrogen and LH (unlike other Ovulation Tests that just detect one hormone). The results can be synced with the Clearblue Connected App which has a monthly calendar and cycle comparison charts as well as the ability to set smart reminders that are based on your personal cycles and will tell you the day to start testing. You can also use the Clearblue app to record your period and track when you have sex. Clearblue Ovulation Tests are the only brand with a reusable holder and they are available with up to 25 sticks.

How to use the Clearblue Connected App

Search for the Clearblue Connected App and download from your app store.

  • Open the app on your phone and create a Clearblue account
  • To finalise creating your account click on the link sent by email
  • Connect your holder, following the instructions on the app- you’ll need the wake-up stick to do this
  • Eject the wake-up stick once connected and keep this as you will need it again to activate Bluetooth on your holder
  • Clearblue Connected App will tell you when to test, display your synced results and let you record details about your period and when you have had sex

How to use the Clearblue Connected Ovulation Test System

20 days before your next period

  • Use the table to determine when to start testing
  • The day your period starts (first day of full bleeding) is Day 1
  • Your cycle length is the total number of days from Day 1 up to and including the day before your next period starts
  • If your cycle length varies use the shortest cycle over the last 6
  • If you don’t know how long your cycle is we recommend you wait for at least one cycle and note the length
  • If you don’t want to wait, you can use the default cycle length of 28 days, which you can select on the app
  • Always use the first urine after your longest sleep

How to use a test

  • When you’re ready to test, remove a test stick from its foil wrapper and take off the cap
  • Put the test stick into the holder, lining up the arrows until it clicks into place
  • The first time you use the test, the new cycle symbols will flash briefly
  • The ‘test ready’ symbol will appear- do the test straight away
  • Place the absorbent tip pointing downwards in your urine stream for 3 seconds or collect a sample of your urine in a clean, dry container and place the absorbent tip into the sample for 15 seconds
  • Replace the cap and keep the absorbent tip pointing downwards or lying flat

Waiting for results

  • You will see that the test is working within 1 minute, as the test symbol will start to flash
  • Your result will appear on the display after 5 minutes
  • Do NOT eject the test stick from the reusable holder

Reading your results

Low fertility – a small chance of falling pregnant

  • A clear circle indicates low fertility- having sex will unlikely cause you to fall pregnant
  • Your result will be displayed for 8 minutes
  • Test again tomorrow using the first urine after your longest sleep

High fertility – increased chance of getting pregnant

  • A flashing smiley face indicates High Fertility and is displayed when the test first detects a rise in your level of oestrogen
  • Your result will be displayed for 8 minutes
  • Test again tomorrow- high fertility is displayed each day until Peak Fertility is detected

Peak fertility- the highest chance of getting pregnant

  • A non-flashing smiley face indicates Peak Fertility and is displayed when your LH surge is detected
  • Today and tomorrow are your most fertile days
  • Your result is displayed constantly for 48 hours
  • You cannot do another test while Peak Fertility is shown, as the holder will not be able to read it

How reliable are Clearblue Ovulation Tests?

Clearblue Connected Ovulation Tests is over 99% accurate at detecting the surge in your LH hormone. It is a far more accurate way of detecting when you are the most fertile than calendar and temperature methods of tracking ovulation.
