What is the Clearblue Ovulation Test Kit with Hormone Indicator?

Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation are the only tests to typically identify 4 or more fertile days, which are the days where you have the best chances to naturally become pregnant in each cycle. They identify 2 peak fertility days, as well as additional high fertility days before that, identifying more opportunities to get pregnant- at least twice as many as any other ovulation test.

What do ovulation tests detect?

Ovulation tests detect hormonal changes in your body which tell your ovaries to release an egg ready for fertilisation. If these hormones are detected it means that you are having a ‘fertile day’ and can increase your chances of falling pregnant if you have sex. There are two main hormones that ovulation tests detect:

Oestrogen

This is a female sex hormone that helps to regulate your reproductive system. Before you ovulate, your body creates more oestrogen and tells your reproductive system to prepare for pregnancy by creating the ideal environment for sperm to swim through, so they can fertilise the egg.

Luteinising Hormone (LH)

When your body produces more oestrogen, it triggers an increase in (LH). This increase tells your ovaries to release the egg and this is when ovulation occurs. When the ovulation test detects a surge of oestrogen levels, it will notify you that you could be going through a highly fertile period, which can last for a few days. If your ovulation test detects and increase in LH, you could be in a period of peak fertility and you could likely conceive for the next 48 hours.

How do Clearblue Ovulation Tests Work?

In every cycle, there are only a few days in which a woman can conceive, so it is important to identify these days to increase your chances of falling pregnant. Clearblue tracks the 2 key fertility hormones (Oestrogen and LH) and identifies the 4 days in which you are the most likely to fall pregnant. Having sex on high or peak fertility days maximises your chances of getting pregnant.

Unlike basal body temperature (BBT) charting, ovulation predictor kits detect the rise in LH which increases before ovulation, to accurately detect the days before ovulation Clearblue Ovulation Tests also detects Oestrogen which rises before the LH surge detect more fertile days. Your partner’s sperm can live in your body for up to 5 days, so you can become pregnant by having sex during the days leading up to ovulation.

The Clearblue’s unique algorithm, the test adapts to your hormone profile, so you are less likely to miss your fertile days. The clear digital display gives you a Clearblue smiley face when it identifies your best days to get pregnant. Clearblue is the only brand with a reusable reader, so if you have test sticks left after detecting your first LH increase, you can use them with the same test holder.

  • Always test using the first urine after your longest sleep.
  • You need to know your usual cycle length before you start to ensure you test at the right time to find your high and peak fertile days
  • The day your period starts (first day of full bleeding) is Day 1. Your cycle length is the total number of days from Day 1 up to and including the day before your next period starts
  • Once you know your cycle length, use the table below to find out when to start testing

How to use a test

  • Remove a test stick from its foil wrapper
  • Remove the cap from the test stick
  • Align the purple arrow on the ovulation test stick with the arrow on the test holder
  • Insert the test stick until it clicks into place
  • The ovulation test will switch on after you have inserted the test stick correctly
  • If it’s the first time you have used the test holder, the ‘new cycle’ symbols will flash briefly
  • Wait for the ‘test ready’ symbol to appear and test immediately
  • Place the absorbent tip pointing downwards in your urine stream for 3 seconds
  • Or collect a sample of your urine in a clean, dry container and dip the sampler in the urine for 15 seconds
  • The ‘test ready’ symbol will start flashing after a minute to show the test is working

Waiting for results

  • Within 1 minute you will see that the test is working as the test ready symbol will start to flash
  • Keep the sampler pointing downwards or lay the test flat
  • Throughout testing never hold the test with the absorbent tip pointing upwards
  • Your result will appear on the display after 5 minutes

Reading your results

Low Fertility- a clear circle

  • A clear circle indicates low fertility - it is unlikely, but not impossible that you will become pregnant
  • Do not test again today – test again tomorrow, using the first urine after your longest sleep
  • The test is looking for the rise in oestrogen that will indicate you have reached High Fertility, for your High Fertility results to be reliable it’s important to test only once a day

High Fertility- a flashing smiley face

  • When the test first detects a rise in your level of oestrogen, it will display High Fertility (a flashing smiley face)
  • In the following days, the test will continue to display High Fertility whilst it looks for your LH surge- continue to test daily to find you LH surge
  • After your first day of High Fertility is displayed you can test more than once a day if you would like to but excess fluid intake before testing

Peak Fertility- A static smiley face is constantly displayed for 48 hours after it first appears

· You cannot do another test while Peak Fertility is shown, as the holder will not be able to read it
