What is dry skin?
Dry skin is often a temporary condition, although some people might experience it long-term. Symptoms of dry skin include:
- Skin feeling tight- especially after showering, bathing or swimming.
- Skin that feels and looks rough.
- Flaking, scaling or peeling.
- Fine lines or cracks
What causes dry skin?
Dry skin can be caused by a range of environmental factors and other skin conditions, including:.
Skin can often dry out in winter when temperatures and humidity levels drop.
Central heating, fireplaces and heaters can reduce humidity in the air and dry out the skin.
Baths, Showers and Swimming
Taking long, hot showers or lying in hot baths for long periods of time can dry out the skin.
Other Skin Conditions
Skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis can cause dry skin.
Why is moisturising important?
Did you know that the skin is the body’s largest organ? It acts as the body’s protective barrier, but without the right amount of moisture, your skin’s ability to provide this protection is compromised.
Your skin can only fulfil these functions when it is sufficiently moisturised:
Skin can only perform its task as the body’s protective barrier if it has sufficient moisture.
Prevents Drying Out
Skin lipids (natural fats that maintain the skin’s protective barrier) regulate moisture and minimise water loss to prevent the skin from becoming tight and dry.
Prevents Bacteria Growth
Moisture in the skin maintains balance which prevents the penetration of fungi and bacteria
Without moisture in the skin, generating new skin cells becomes difficult.
Water in the skin is important to maintain elasticity, without which every small movement or vibration would make the skin tear.
How does Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion work?
Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion works by binding water to the skin to prevent moisture loss. It is specifically formulated to hydrate sensitive, dry skin so doesn’t contain any fragrance or lanolin (a type of animal fat commonly used in moisturisers), so it is gentle on the skin and doesn’t clog pores.
Who is Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion Suitable for?
Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion is suitable for anyone who has dry sensitive skin. It is recommended to rehydrate damaged skin associated with common skin conditions, such as eczema.
How to use Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion
