What are Alka-Seltzer Original 20 Effervescent Tablets?

Alka-Seltzer Original Tablets are a form of treatment that helps to relieve pain. These tablets contain the active ingredient aspirin, which belongs to a group called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs are all painkillers that also help to reduce fever and also reduce blood clots. These Alka-Seltzer tablets are suitable to be used for a headache, fever, muscle pain, sore throats and indigestion.


What causes indigestion?

Indigestion is most likely to be caused by certain food and drinks. The symptoms of indigestion include heartburn/acid reflux, bloating, feeling full, and feeling sick. Aside from eating and drinking, indigestion can also be caused by certain medicines, smoking, and alcohol.


Who are these tablets suitable for?

These tablets can be used by adults and children aged 16 and over. They should not be used by anyone who is allergic to aspirin or any other ingredient contained in the tablets. They should also not be used by anyone who:

  • Is allergic to any other NSAID
  • Suffers from chest tightness or asthma
  • Suffers from gout
  • Has had a history of gastrointestinal disorders
  • Has kidney, liver, and/or heart problems
  • Is about to have surgery

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

These tablets should not be used by someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding unless advised to do so by a doctor.


How should Alka-Seltzer Original 20 Effervescent Tablets be used?

Take 2 tablets and dissolve them in a glass of water, around 100ml. Take more tablets every 4 hours if required. Do not exceed 8 tablets a day. Do not use for more than 3 days. If problems persist, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.


Are there any side effects?

Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Skin rashes or itching
  • Swelling in the face
  • Mild stomach pain and heartburn. Can be avoided if the tablets are taken with food
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Runny or blocked nose
  • Kidney problems

If you notice any side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Does this product (alka seltzer) contain heavy metals in the sodium bicarb element? such as aluminum?

Alka-Seltzer contains three active ingredients: aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) (ASA), sodium bicarbonate, and anhydrous citric acid. The aspirin is a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory, the sodium bicarbonate is an antacid, and the citric acid reacts with the sodium bicarbonate and water to form effervescence.

Does this medicine ( Help relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach? Is it same as Alka-seltzer extra strength?

Uses for the temporary relief of:

? heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach when accompanied with headache or body aches and pains ? upset stomach with headache from overindulgence in food or drink

? headache, body aches, and pain alone

Alka-Seltzer XS Tablets. Alka Seltzer XS is an extra strength version of the original antacid and pain reliever, but XS also contains caffiene.
