What is calcium?

Calcium is a mineral that is required b the body to help support and maintain healthy bones and teeth. Our bodies cannot produce calcium on its own so we need to receive it from our diet. Dairy foods, such as milk, yoghurt and cheese are all good sources of calcium. Some non-dairy products contain small amounts of calcium including:

  • Green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage
  • Soya beans, tofu and soya drinks with added calcium
  • Nuts
  • Foods made with fortified flour, such as bread
  • Bony fish, such as sardines
  • Water

Calcium is also required to maintain healthy function of the heart, muscles and nerves. It is recommended that adults aged over 50 to take a calcium supplement to reduce their risk of bone damage and to maintain healthy bones.

How can Adcal tablets help to prevent calcium deficiencies?

Each Adcal tablet contains 1500mg of calcium carbonate, which is equivalent to 600mg of calcium. The tablets are chewable with a delicious fruit flavour, which makes them easy and pleasant to administer especially for those who have trouble swallowing traditional tablets. Adcal can be used to prevent calcium deficiencies by supplementing the diet with an increased level of calcium. The tablets can be beneficial for those who cannot receive sufficient amounts of calcium in their diet due to dietary restrictions or health conditions. They may also be used to help treat bone conditions.
