How Accord Period Pain Reliever Tablets work
Accord Period Pain Reliever Tablets contains naproxen which belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Naproxen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Directions
Always take Accord Period Pain Reliever Tablets exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
You should swallow the tablet whole with water, with or after food. Do not crush or chew the tablets.
First day of treatment
Initially take 2 tablets. If needed, take 1 tablet after 6-8 hours.
Second day of treatment
Take one tablet every 6-8 hours.
Do not take more than 3 tablets a day for more than 3 days during each menstrual cycle.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Accord Period Pain Reliever Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody.

Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Accord Period Pain Reliever Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
- You have or have had stomach or gut ulcers, bleeding in the stomach or intestines or have had two or more episodes of stomach ulcers, perforation or bleeding
- You have severe heart failure
- You have severe liver failure
- You have severe kidney failure
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You are on a low potassium diet
- You have a history of gastrointestinal disease e.g. Crohn’s disease
- You are elderly or frail
- You have had high blood pressure, a stroke or any heart, liver or kidney problems
- You have asthma, diabetes or high cholesterol
- You are a smoker
- You drink alcohol
- You have systemic lupus erythematosus or other connective tissue disorders
- You have Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis
- You have any blood clotting disorders
- You first experienced period pain more than a year after starting your periods
- You are a woman trying to become pregnant or are undergoing investigation of infertility
Using/taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medication including medication obtained without a prescription. Especially:
- Other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs e.g. ibuprofen
- Aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid to prevent blood clots
- Antacids
- Medicines to treat high blood pressure
- Diuretics
- Cardiac glycosides
- Lithium
- Methotrexate
- Ciclosporin or tacrolimus
- Mifepristone
- Corticosteroids
- Blood thinning medications e.g. warfarin
- SSRI antidepressants
- Medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes
- Quinolone antibiotics
- Probenecid
- Hydantoins
- Zidovudine
- Cholestyramine
Age restrictions
This product is recommended for women aged 15 to 50 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not take this medication in the last 3 months of pregnancy as it could harm your unborn child or cause problems at delivery. It can cause kidney and heart problems in your unborn baby.
You should not take Accord Period Pain Reliever in the first 6 months of pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and advised by your doctor.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Driving and operating machinery
This medication does not usually cause any effects, however, you may experience dizziness, drowsiness, a spinning sensation or disturbed vision. If you are affected do not drive or operate machinery.
Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
