Dioctyl 100mg Capsules are a laxative medication that can help ease constipation.
It is perfect for those suffering from long-term constipation or for those who are having a stomach X-ray.
You can also take these tablets if you are suffering from piles, as they will help to make it easier to poo.
How Dioctyl 100mg Capsules work
Dioctyl 100mg Capsules contain docusate sodium, which is a laxative. It works by increasing the amount of water in your poo, softening it and making it easier to pass.
It also helps to stimulate the muscles in your bowel, pushing it through your back passage, making movements easier.
Directions
Always take Dioctyl Capsules exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.
You can take up to 5 capsules a day as needed. Take the capsules with a sip of water.
As your constipation eases, you can reduce your daily dose.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Dioctyl Capsules may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. The most commonly reported side effects of this medicine are:
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach cramps
- Nausea
- Skin rash
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
Dioctyl Capsules may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these capsules if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
- You have stomach pain
- You feel sick, or you have been sick in the last 24 hours
- You have a blocked bowel
- You have an intolerance to fructose
Talk to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You need to take laxatives every day
- You have regular or constant stomach pain
Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before taking this product.
You must tell your healthcare provider if you are taking mineral oil.
Age restrictions
This product is unsuitable for children under 12 years old.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Take caution if you are using this product whilst breastfeeding, as small amounts of docusate sodium will be excreted into breast milk. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
Storage information
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
