What are Accu Chek Performa Test Strips?
Accu-Chek Performa Test Strips work alongside the Accu-Chek Performa blood glucose meters to help you to manage your diabetes. The compact system makes it easy for you to check your blood glucose anytime, anywhere, as simply and reliably as possible.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a medical condition which makes your blood glucose (sugar) level become too high. 90% of adults in the UK who have diabetes, suffer with type 2 diabetes, which means that your body doesn’t create enough insulin, a hormone which regulates the amount of glucose in your blood.
How do these test strips work?
When a drop of blood is placed onto the end of your Accu-Chek Performa Test Strip, the strip reacts with a chemical called glucose oxidase in your blood and creates something called gluconic acid. Your meter will then use an electrical pulse to determine how much of this acid has been produced, using the results to work out your blood glucose levels.
Which Accu-Chek blood glucose meter do these test strips work with?
You can use these testing strips with the Accu-Chek Performa and Accu-Chek Performa Nano blood glucose meters.
Do I need to draw blood to use these test strips?
To use these testing strips, you will need to draw a drop of blood from your fingertip or another suitable location, such as the palm, upper arm, or forearm. You can use a finger pricker or lancet to draw the blood safely and use it for testing.
How to use these Accu-Chek Performa Test Strips
To perform a blood glucose test using your Accu-Chek Performa Test Strips and your Accu-Chek Performa or Performa Nano system, first wash and dry your hands. Remove one test strip from its container and insert it into the meter, following the direction of the arrows on the strip until the meter beeps. Use your lancing device to draw a drop of blood from your finger and touch the end of the test strip to the blood drop. The meter will beep and flash when there is enough blood on the strip, and after 5 seconds your test result will appear on the meter’s display.
