What is Sudafed Blocked Nose Capsules?

Sudafed Blocked Nose Capsules are a treatment that works to reduce a blocked nose and make breathing easier. The active ingredient in these capsules is phenylephrine, which is a decongestant that works to reduce the swelling in the nose that has been caused by the blood vessels swelling.

 

What causes a blocked nose?

A blocked nose is caused by an infection, such as a cold or an allergy such as hay fever. A blocked nose is caused when the blood vessels in the nose become swollen as a result of the infection and this causes breathing difficulties. There can also be mucus in the back of the nose that can cause a blocked or a runny nose.

 

Who are these Sudafed capsules suitable for?

These Sudafed capsules are suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. Anyone who is allergic to phenylephrine or any other ingredient contained in the capsules. These capsules should also not be used if any of the following applies to you:

  • You have diabetes mellitus
  • Suffer from heart disease
  • Have closed-angle glaucoma
  • An overactive thyroid
  • Have prostate problems
  • Taking an antidepressant known as a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI)
  • Taking anything with alcohol
  • Taking medication for high blood pressure

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these capsules?

Do not use these capsules if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Speak to a medical professional for advice if you are looking for treatment.

 

How should Sudafed Blocked Nose Capsules be used?

These Sudafed capsules should be used by taking one capsule up to four times a day. Do not exceed this dosage. If you are still experiencing symptoms after a week, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

 

Are there any side effects?

Like with many types of medication, there is a chance of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • An increased heart rate
  • An irregular heartbeat
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Men with prostate problems may experience trouble passing urine
  • Nausea Vomiting
  • A headache

If you notice a side effect, stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
