Weaning Tips

Weaning your baby is a massive step and can be both a really exciting and worrying time. It can be difficult to know where and how to start. Here are some tips to get you started.

  • Your baby should start to show signs that they are ready to move on to solid foods at around 6 months - they’ll tend to be more hungry and will need more than breast milk or formula to meet their needs
  • You can either start weaning by spoon-feeding your baby or you can try baby-led weaning where you allow your child to try to feed themselves or use a combination of both
  • Your baby only needs a small amount of solid food, once a day at a time that suits both you and your baby
  • Start weaning your child with single vegetables and fruits - you could try them mashed or blended or cut sticks of parsnip, broccoli, potato or carrot and cook them so they are soft
  • You could also start the weaning process by mixing baby rice with your baby’s usual milk
  • Always ensure that any cooked food has cooled fully before allowing your baby to eat it

How can SMA Follow-On Milk be used as part of your child’s weaning diet?

Each 800g tin of SMA Follow-On Milk contains 177 scoops. The expert team at SMA is dedicated to understanding the structure of breastmilk and applying these findings from nature to their products in order to develop products that can help to support your baby’s nutritional needs. The organic formula milk is sourced from certified organic farms. The effective formula is tailored for babies from 6 months of age as part of a varied weaning diet. It is enriched with Omega 3 and 6 and iodine to help support your child’s normal growth. This product is certified both halal and organic.
