What is Aveeno Skin Relief Nourishing Lotion With Shea Butter?

This Aveeno Lotion is a treatment for dry, irritated skin that is sensitive and needs a treatment that can restore moisture and reduce any redness or irritation as well as any dryness. This lotion contains shea butter, a fat that is extracted from the nut of the shea tree, a tree that is native to Africa, that works as an emollient to restore moisture back to the skin.

What causes dry skin?

Dry skin is a result of a number of factors that have resulted in the skin barrier becoming damaged. This allows for moisture in the skin to leave, causing dry skin that has become sensitive and irritated. There are a number of factors that can cause dry skin, which can be external or internal factors. External factors that can cause dry skin can include:

  • Weather conditions
  • Seasonal – winter and summer especially
  • UV sunlight
  • Frequently washing
  • Using strong soaps
  • Certain types of medication

The internal factors cannot be controlled in some cases, and include:

  • Hormonal changes such as menopause
  • Genetics – some people naturally have drier skin than others
  • Diet
  • Ageing

Using the right treatment can reduce the effects of any cause and some can be reduced by a change in what is used to clean or eat.

Who is this Aveeno Lotion suitable for?

This lotion is suitable to be used by anyone who is suffering from the effects of dry skin. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the lotion. If you are using any other form of skin treatment for a condition such as eczema or psoriasis, speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this lotion.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use this lotion?

There is no evidence of any problems when using this lotion when pregnant or breastfeeding. However, it is recommended that anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding speaks to a medical professional before using this lotion.

How should Aveeno Skin Relief Nourishing Lotion With Shea Butter be used?

This lotion should be used daily after a shower or a bath for the best results. The lotion will moisturise and soothe the skin from the first time it is used. To use, apply it to the affected areas of the skin that has become dry, sensitive, and irritated.

Are there any side effects?

A side effect is most likely to be caused by an allergic reaction. If you notice any side effect, then stop using and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record any side effect that you notice using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
