What are Nurofen For Children Strawberry Sachets?

Nurofen for Children Sachets are premeasured doses of pain relief medication, designed for children aged from 3 months to 9 years to help bring down high temperature and relieve pain. Each sachet contains a 5ml dose of Nurofen for Children and a double-sided measuring spoon is included in every pack to make administering the correct dose simple.

 

What pain can Nurofen Sachets help to relieve?

This product can be used to relieve a variety of aches and pains as well as reduce fever (including post-immunization fever and symptoms of cold and flu. Other symptoms that Nurofen can help to relieve include:

  • Headaches
  • Sore throats
  • Minor aches
  • Sprains
  • Teething
  • Toothache

 

How do Nurofen Sachets help to ease pain and fever?

Nurofen contains the active ingredient, ibuprofen which is part of a group of medicines called NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). Ibuprofen is used as an analgesic (painkiller) for the relief of many types of mild aches and pains. The delicious strawberry flavour encourages your child to swallow the medications and the handy spoon provided makes it simple to measure out the correct dose for stress and fuss-free administration.

 

Can Nurofen be taken with other medicine?

Speak to your doctor or a Chemist 4 U pharmacist if your child is taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines including:

  • Other medicines containing ibuprofen or other NSAIDs- including over-the-counter painkillers
  • Low dose aspirin (up to 75mg a day)
  • Diuretics
  • Medicines for high blood pressure
  • Lithium
  • Zidovudine
  • Cardiac glycosides
  • Corticosteroids
  • Antiplatelet drugs

Can adult’s take children’s Nurofen?

Adults can take this product, however, it’s usually better for you to take medications that are designed for adults. If you wish to take this medicine, speak to your doctor or a Chemist 4 U to ensure whether this is the best product for you. Ensure you read the patient information leaflet carefully as there are additional warnings that adults will need to take into consideration before taking this product.

 

How to take Nurofen Sachets

Nurofen sachet can be easily administered in just a few steps:

  • Before opening, massage the sachet to mix the contents
  • Gently squeeze the liquid onto the two-ended measuring spoon
  • Wash the spoon in warm water and allow to dry between doses
  • Throw away any half-used sachets

 One 2.5ml dose 3 times a day.

Do not give to babies aged 3-6 months for more than 24 hours. If symptoms persist or worsen after this time, consult your doctor

6 months- 12 months

One 2.5ml dose 3-4 time in 24 hours

1 year – 3 years

One 5ml dose 3 times in 24 hours

4 years – 6 years

One 7.5 ml (5ml +2.5ml) dose 3 times in 24 hours

7 years – 9 years

One 10ml (5ml+5ml) dose 3 times in 24 hours

 
  • Doses should be given every 6-8 hours.
  • Leave at least 4 hours between doses.
  • Do NOT take more than the recommended dose in 24 hours.
  • For SHORT-TERM USE ONLY
  • Do NOT give on an empty stomach

Warning

Ensure you measure the correct dose accurately using the 2.5ml or 5ml spoon ends.

 

How does it take for ibuprofen to start working?

It typically takes around 20-30 minutes for ibuprofen to start working. It is recommended to give ibuprofen with or just after a meal so it doesn’t upset your child’s tummy. If your child’s symptoms do not improve, worsen or last for more than 3 days, speak to a doctor or a Chemist 4 U pharmacist.

 

When should this product NOT be used?

This medicine is suitable for most children but there are certain circumstances where Nurofen should not be used. Do NOT give this medicine to your child if:

  • They have ever reacted (e.g. asthma, runny nose, rash, swelling of the face, tongue, lips or throat) after taking ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs)
  • They weigh less than 5kg or are under 3 months of age
  • They are taking any other anti-inflammatory (NSAID) painkillers or aspirin with a daily dose above 75mg.
  • They have (or have had two or more episodes of) a stomach ulcer, perforation or bleeding
  • They have severe kidney, heart or liver failure
  • They have inherited problems coping with fructose/fruit sugar
  • They have a history of stomach bleeding or perforation after taking ibuprofen or other NSAIDs
  • Your child has chickenpox

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if:

  • Your child has or has had high blood pressure, heart problems or a stroke because there is a small increased risk of heart problems with ibuprofen
  • Your child has a condition which may put them at risk of heart problems, such as diabetes or high cholesterol
  • Your child has asthma or any allergic disease of the lungs
  • Your child has or has had liver, kidney or bowel problems
  • Your child is dehydrated
  • Your child has SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a condition of the immune system) or any similar disease
  • Your child suffers from chronic inflammatory bowel disease (such as Chron’s disease or ulcerative colitis

 

 

Side effects

Like all medicines, Nurofen for Children can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common side effect is irritation of the stomach which can cause problems such as indigestion and heartburn.

If your child experiences any of the following, stop giving this medicine and tell your doctor immediately:

  • Blood in the stools (poo)
  • Black tar-like stools
  • Vomiting blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds
  • Unexplained wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath
  • Skin rash, itching or bruising, severe skin reaction
  • Racing heart
  • Fluid retention (swollen ankles or decreased levels of passing urine)
  • Stiff neck,
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Disorientation
  • Swelling of face, tongue or throat
  • Severe skin reaction known as DRESS, which includes rash, fever, swelling of lymph nodes.

If your child experiences any of the following side effects, stop giving this medicine and seek medical advice:

  • Unexplained stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, nausea or vomiting
  • Yellowing of the eyes, pale stools and dark urine (can be signs of kidney or liver problems)
  • Severe sore throat with high fever
  • Unexplained bruising or bleeding, tiredness, getting more infections than normal e.g. mouth ulcers, colds, sore throat, fever (these can be signs of anaemia or other blood disorders).

 

Storage

Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children. Do NOT use this medicine after the expiry date, which is stated on the carton.
