What is Newton’s Labs Rubbing Alcohol?

Newton’s Labs Rubbing Alcohol is an antiseptic liquid that can be used to disinfect your hands or to clean around your home. This 70% rubbing alcohol kills bacteria it comes into contact with, perfect for keeping your skin clean when you’re worried about infections or passing an illness to a vulnerable person. With a wide range of uses, rubbing alcohol is one of those products that every household should have in the cupboard, as it can be used for disinfecting, cleaning, deodorizing, and more!

What can I use rubbing alcohol for?

There are lots of uses for rubbing alcohol, and everyone has their own favourite way of using it around the home or as part of their first aid kit. Some of the most popular ways to use rubbing alcohol include:

  • As an antiseptic
  • To disinfect your hands
  • As an astringent
  • As a deodorant
  • To soothe aching muscles
  • To remove ticks
  • To disinfect surfaces
  • To disinfect kitchen sponges and cloths
  • To clean and disinfect around the home
  • To remove ink stains from dry-erase boards
  • To clean makeup brushes
  • To deodorize shoes

Can I use rubbing alcohol for bed bugs?

Rubbing alcohol can be used to kill bed bugs and eggs, but it may not be the best way to get rid of a bed bug infestation. For starters, the alcohol will need to come into direct contact with each bed bug to have an effect, which can be difficult to guarantee in most cases. Rubbing alcohol is also flammable, so it usually is not the best product to apply to your bedding or mattress. If you have a bed bug infestation in your home, we recommend speaking to a local pest control service, some of which are available through local councils.

How does rubbing alcohol work as an antibacterial?

Newton’s Labs Rubbing Alcohol has 70% alcohol content, which makes it perfect for cleaning your hands if you’re worried about spreading illness or disinfecting household surfaces that can harbour bacteria.

Should I use 70% or 90% rubbing alcohol?

Rubbing alcohol is available in strengths of 50% or over, with 70% and 90% concentrations being some of the most popular types available. The strength of rubbing alcohol you should use will depend on what you want to use it for. Although they’re both very effective disinfectants, we’d recommend using 70% rubbing alcohol like this product if you’re looking for an antiseptic for your skin. 70% rubbing alcohol is generally kinder to your skin than 90%, which could make it the better choice for disinfecting your hands or use as an astringent, antiseptic, or deodorant.

How to use this product

Rubbing alcohol has many different uses, but you should always take care to only use it in a well-ventilated area. You usually will not need to dilute rubbing alcohol before use. If you’re using this product to disinfect surfaces, make sure to try it on a small, less visible area before widespread use. This will help you to be sure that the alcohol won’t damage the coating on your surfaces or cause any discolouration.

When should this product not be used?

Do not use Newton’s Labs Rubbing Alcohol if you are allergic to isopropyl alcohol or any of the other listed ingredients. For external use only, avoid contact with eyes and other sensitive areas. Do not swallow. If you experience any irritation or unwanted effects, stop use right away. If irritation persists, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. As this product contains alcohol it is highly flammable and should be kept away from heat, open flames, or sources of ignition.
