What is Nasacort nasal spray?

Nasacort nasal spray is a treatment for hay fever and allergy symptoms that affect your nose. When you use it every day, it can help to reduce symptoms like sneezing, itching, and a blocked or runny nose in adults over 18. If you’re looking for a reliable way to clear a blocked nose during hay fever season or know that you’re about to come into contact with something that triggers your allergy symptoms, Nasacort could be the perfect way to relieve those irritating allergies.

Why do I get a blocked and runny nose when I have an allergic reaction?

When you have an allergic reaction it means you’ve come into contact with something your body is sensitive to. For example, you may be allergic to plant pollen (hay fever), pet fur, dust, different foods, or mould spores. When you come into contact with an allergen, your body responds by triggering symptoms designed to get the irritant out of your body, with some of the most common allergy symptoms including:

  • Sneezing
  • A blocked or runny nose
  • Itchy eyes, ears, nose, or throat
  • Red, watery, puffy eyes
  • Coughing
  • An itchy, lumpy rash (hives)

How will the triamcinolone in Nasacort relieve my allergy symptoms?

Each spray of Nasacort containins 55mcg of an active ingredient called triamcinolone acetonide, which is a type of steroid called a corticosteroid. It relieves nasal allergy symptoms by reducing the swelling in your nasal passages, working best when used over time. By reducing the swelling in your nose, Nasacort helps to clear the blockage, reducing pressure on your sinuses and creating more room in your nose, which helps to reduce a runny nose. It also helps to reduce irritation in your nose, reducing sneezing and itching.

Can I use this nasal spray with my other allergy medication?

If you’re taking any other medication, including other allergy medications, herbal remedies, or any medications you’ve obtained without a prescription, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product. Some medications can interact with Nasacort, causing unwanted effects or affecting how this product works. For example, medicines for HIV, including ritonavir and cobicistat, can increase the effects of this product so your doctor will need to monitor your carefully if you take these medicines together.

Can I use this allergy nasal spray during my pregnancy?

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding you shouldn’t use Nasacort nasal spray unless you’re told to do so by your doctor. Steroid nasal sprays like this usually aren’t recommended during these times, but your doctor may recommend that you use this product if the benefits of using it are higher than the possible risk to your baby. Naturally, this decision should only be made with the help of a medical professional.

Can I drive after using this allergy spray?

Nasacort allergy nasal spray is not currently known to affect your ability to drive, so you should be fine after using this product. However, dizziness and tiredness are both known side effects of this product, although it is not currently known how common these symptoms are. If you experience either of these symptoms or any other symptoms which could affect your attention in any way, do not attempt to drive or use any tools or machinery until you’re absolutely sure that the symptoms have passed and you’re safe to do so.
