What are Loratadine One-a-Day Allergy and Hayfever Relief 10mg Tablets?

Loratadine One-a-Day Allergy and Hayfever Relief Tablets are a form of medication that is designed to reduce the effects of allergies, including hayfever, dust allergy, skin allergies, and pet allergies. The active ingredient contained in the tablets is loratadine, an antihistamine. Loratadine provides relief for allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a runny nose, and watery eyes, as well as a rash, itching, or urticaria (hives).

What causes an allergy?

An allergy is caused by a substance coming into contact with the body and the body’s defences triggering actions because it believes that it is a threat. One of the actions is to release a chemical known as histamine to combat the allergy. Histamine is responsible for many of the symptoms associated with an allergy. This is why many allergy treatments are known as antihistamines, as they suppress the effects of histamine.

Who are these Loratadine tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable to be used by adults aged 2 and over, as long as they weigh over 30kg. For children under 30kg, a liquid solution is probably more suitable for them. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients that are contained in the tablets. Speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist if you have liver problems or are using any other form of medication.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use these tablets?

These tablets are not suitable to be used by anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. Instead, consult a medical professional for advice before using any form of medication.

How should Loratadine One-a-Day Allergy and Hayfever Relief 10mg Tablets be used?

These tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Do not chew them. Only 1 tablet should be taken a day, unless you have severe liver problems, then only take a tablet every other day.

Are there any potential side effects?

Like with many types of medicine, there is a chance of side effects when using. Potential side effects when using these tablets include:

  • Swelling in the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • A skin rash
  • A headache
  • Tiredness
  • Drowsiness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dizziness
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Itching
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Upset stomach

If you notice any side effect, stop using the tablets and speak to a doctor or Chemist 4 U pharmacist as soon as possible. You can also record a side effect using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
