What are Gaviscon Strawberry Flavour Tablets?

These Gaviscon tablets are used for the treatment of symptoms for gastro-oesophageal reflux such as heartburn, indigestion, and acid regurgitation. They work by providing a protective barrier that soothes heartburn and also neutralising the stomach acid. The active ingredients are:

  • Sodium alginate
  • Calcium carbonate
  • Sodium hydrogen carbonate

Who are Gaviscon tablets suitable for?

These tablets are suitable to be used any adult and child aged 12 and over. For any child under 12, consult your doctor before using. You should not use these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients contained in them. These are:

  • Sodium alginate
  • Calcium carbonate
  • Sodium hydrogen carbonate
  • Mannitol
  • Macrogol 20,000
  • Aspartame
  • Magnesium stearate
  • Xylitol and Carmellose sodium
  • Red iron oxide
  • Strawberry cream flavour (Strawberry cream PHS-048481)
  • Ingredients of the strawberry cream flavour:
  • Maltodextrin
  • Modified starch E1450
  • Vegetable oil
  • Propylene glycol E1520

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use Gaviscon tablets?

Yes, these tablets are fine to use by someone who is either pregnant or breastfeeding.

How many tablets should I use a day?

You should take one or two tablets, after a meal and before bedtime, up to four times a day.

Are there any side effects?

As with many medicines, there is a risk of side effects. Potential side effects include:

  • Skin rash
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Dizziness
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
