Piriton is an allergy tablet containing the active ingredient chlorphenamine maleate. They are used to control symptoms caused by allergic conditions, including hayfever, hives, food allergy and insect bites. Piriton can also be used for relieving itchiness associated with chickenpox.
Active ingredients per tablet: Chlorphenamine Maleate 4 mg.
Piriton tablets are to be taken by mouth only. Not recommended for children under the age of 6 years.
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 6 tablets (24mg) in any 24 hours.
Elderly: The elderly are more likely to experience neurological anticholinergic effects, such as blurred vision, dry mouth, flushing and hyperthermia. Consider taking a lower daily dose, e.g. maximum 12 mg in any 24 hours.
Children aged 6 - 12 years: Half tablet to be taken every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 3 tablets (12mg) in any 24 hours.
Piriton is indicated for symptomatic relief of all allergic conditions responsive to antihistamines, e.g hay fever, runny nose, sneezing, hives, angioneurotic oedema (rapid swelling of the dermis), food allergy, drug and serum reactions and insect bites.
Piriton tablets should not be used by anyone who is sensitive to antihistamines or any of the ingredients. Consult your GP before use if you have any other medical conditions, including, but not limited to epilepsy, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, bronchitis or asthma.
