Chlorphenamine 4mg tablets are antihistamine tablets containing the active ingredient Chlorphenamine Maleate, which will block the actions of histamine, therefore relieving symptoms associated with allergic reactions.

 

These tablets are suitable for treating allergic conditions such as hay fever, rhinitis, urticaria, pruritis, insect bites or stings, food allergies and pet allergies.

What are Chlorphenamine 4mg Hayfever And Skin Allergy Relief 28 Tablets?

These tablets are an antihistamine that can reduce the effects of symptoms caused by allergies such as hay fever. The active ingredient, chlorphenamine maleate, works to stock the effects of symptoms for a number of allergies, such as:

  • Hay fever
  • Rhinitis (nose irritation)
  • Urticaria (also known as hives or nettle rash)
  • Pruritus (itching)
  • Insect bites or stings
  • Food allergies
  • Pet allergies

Who are Chlorphenamine tablets suitable for?

They are suitable to use for adults and children aged 6 and over. You should not use if you are allergic to the ingredients in the tablets. These are:

  • Chlorphenamine maleate
  • Lactose
  • Potato starch
  • Magnesium stearate
  • Quinoline yellow (E104)

You should also not use these tablets if you:

  • Are currently or have in the last two weeks taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (for depression)
  • Have intolerance to some sugars

Can I take these if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, these tablets are not suitable for you if you are either pregnant or breastfeeding.

How many tablets should be taken?

For adults and children over the age of 12, it is recommended that you take one full tablet every 4-6 hours, and no more than six tablets a day. For children under 12, half the dosage by cutting the tablet in half.

Are there any side effects?

Like many medicines, there are potential side effects. These include:

  • Skin peeling
  • Itchy red skin rash
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Changes in heart rate
  • Palpitations
  • Low blood pressure (you may feel faint)
  • Tightness of the chest
  • Thickened bronchial secretions (which may cause a cough or phlegm)
  • Liver problems including hepatitis and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
  • Blood problems such as anaemia
  • Muscle weakness, twitching, lack of coordination
  • Depression, irritability, nightmares
  • Confusion in the elderly
  • Hyperactivity in children
