What is a Face Shield Visor?

Face Shield Visors are a form of PPE that can be an effective way to provide protection from airborne droplets and splashes of fluid. The face shield includes a clear plastic visor that prevents harmful substances from touching the skin or airborne foreign bodies from being inhaled whilst still allowing the wearer to see and communicate clearly. 

What can the Face Shield Visors be used for?

Face shields can be used in any environment where chemicals, harmful liquids or airborne substances are present to provide protection and prevent contact or inhalation. They can also be useful to prevent cross-contamination, for example in sanitised areas. Face shield visors can also be useful in environments where effective communication is necessary as they allow full visibility of the wearer’s face compared with face masks. 

How do Face Visors work?

Face visors comprise of a comfortable headband that secures the visor to the wearers head to prevent the visor from slipping or falling off. The plastic shield covers the entire face to prevent substances coming into contact with any part of the face including the eyes and nose. As they cover the entire face they are ideal for people who wear eyewear as the visor can cover glasses, therefore preventing germs or substances from contaminating eyewear which could then come into contact with the hands, therefore adding an extra degree of protection. The clear visor can be washed using water and are easily sanitised with alcohol, so are reusable. 

How to use this product

Place the visor over your head and fasten it using the adjustable headband. Ensure the visor covers your full face. Ensure you clean the visor with water and sanitise with an alcohol sanitiser to prevent cross-contamination before re-using. Ensure there are no cracks or breakages on the visor before use. 

What other preventative measures can be taken to protect yourself against airborne substances?

Using a face visor  is just one preventative measure you can take to protect yourself from respiratory pathogens, dust and harmful airborne substances. However, it is recommended to not rely on masks alone to provide an adequate level of protection. Here are a few more steps you can use, along with the use of safety masks to protect yourself from harmful substances in the environment:

• Perform hand hygiene frequently, using soap and water (where possible) or an alcohol-based hand rub

• Try not to touch your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

• Cover nose and mouth with a bent elbow or paper tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of tissue immediately after use

• Keep surfaces clean and disinfected
