What is Essentials Kids Saline Nasal Spray used for?

Essentials Kids Saline Nasal Spray is used to clear your baby or child’s nasal passages when they become blocked with thick mucus. Your baby is unable to clear their nose by themselves until a certain age and so a saline nasal spray made up of just salt and water helps to rinse away thick or dried mucus and moistens the nasal passages, allowing them to breathe easier and prevent sinus infections. Essentials nasal spray is gentle enough to be used from birth.

How to use the Essentials Kids Saline Nasal Spray

Always use this product exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you. This product is to be used in the nostrils only. Before use, ensure the spray is working by pressing the pump, a mist should appear. For young children and babies, lay them down and turn their head to one side. Place the nozzle in one nostril and spray once, repeat on the other nostril.

How do saline nasal sprays relieve congestion?

Saline nasal sprays restore moisture to the nasal passages and sinuses that are dry. They also help to loosen thick mucus, helping it to naturally clear from the nose. Saline nasal sprays can also flush out irritants from the nose that may be causing congestion. They’re a popular option as they’re gentle and do not contain steroids or other drugs.

What causes nasal congestion in babies and children?

Babies and children can develop nasal congestion due to cold, flu, allergies, sinus infection, pollutants in the air, and changes in the weather particularly when the air becomes dry. It’s very common for children and babies to get nasal congestion and although it’s usually harmless it can cause discomfort. Nasal sprays are one way to relieve congestion and discomfort.

When should this product not be used?

Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet. Nasal sprays should not be shared amongst other people to prevent infections from spreading. Do not use after the expiry date and if any side effects occur, stop using immediately. You can report side effects using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
